What a round for the tipsters and the good old fashion under dog. Of the 8 games this weekend only Geelong and Kangaroos managed to defeat the sides that were below them on the ladder. What this means is that between 2nd and 3rd spot is 2 premiership points and between 4th and 11th spot is 3 games with 5 more games left in the regular season.
Geelong defeated Hawthorn by 11 points
Geelong did enough to prove they are number one but Hawthorn had their chances. You miss easy shots at goals and its no wonder you loose. Between Buddy, Roughead and pinch hitter Brown they miss kicked 6 easy shots at goals. Geelong have top players (Chapman, Ablett, Ling etc) under an injury cloud but still manage to roll on.
Essendon defeated Collingwood by 48 points
Is this the end of Collingwood and Malthouse? How can you beat top four teams like Sydney and Geelong and then loose to teams like Carlton and Essendon? He needs to stop blaming his cattle and maybe for once take responsibility. McGuire do your team a favour and bring on McKenna or someone else, look at Essendon for example on how they have turned their club around after getting rid of the dead wood (Sheedy).

Essendon were great, they lost the lead but managed to get back and out score them with star performances by this years All Australian ruckman David Hille.
West Coast defeated St Kilda by 17 points
What was great about this game was the emergence of their young stars and the ‘never say die’ attitude. West Coast have been easy beats this year and after being 27 points down you would have thought it was all over again but with Staker playing his best game ever with Ebert showing his talent the team showed why Worsfold has held his faith in this team.
St Kilda would have been kicking themselves BIG time, Gardiner was a flop and surely must be axed at the end of the year along with Harvey and Hudgton. If your body does not hold up, you cannot play the game at the highest level.
Adelaide defeated Sydney by 24 points
Porplyzia is a gun, he should be out having surgey with his shoulders continuing to pop out but he ended up kicking five goals to out shin the return of Barry Hall who I think should NOT be playing. I still do not see Adelaide wining many other games with of their five future games against other potential top 8 sides.
Sydney also have a bit of worry with of their next five games they play both Geelong, Bulldogs and Collingwood who are top five/ six teams and they have struggled against teams above them on the ladder.
Richmond defeated Brisbane by 3 points
Joel Bowden coped a lot in round 16 for his forced behinds which was unwarrented imo but this round he kicked 3 goals in an awesome last quarter against the disappointing insipid Lions to win by 3 points. Loosing so badly in Melbourne would really worry Leigh Mathews especially with J Brown wanting to play at a premiership contender club.
One thing is sure for Richmond, they will finish 9th
Fremantle defeated Port Adelaide by 28 points
No Pavlich, no worries. What was the best thing about this game was not the win but the fact that they managed to win and look impressive without the most selfish captain in front of Chris Judd. Freo had 13 odd goal scores and it meant players like Tarrent and Murphy had a chance to be the key forwards without Pav hogging the forward line.
Port Adelaide would be the most disappointing club this season after playing off in a Grand Final last year. Their forward line looks ok but they lack in defense and a hard running/ working midfielder.
Kangaroos defeated Melbourne by 28 points
Melbourne showed heart and their youngsters have potential but they are so far away that even an up and down Kangaroos side could beat them. Miller shows a lot along with Warnock and the other youngsters.
btw it was good to see someone wack Brent Harvey, he is a checky so and so.

Carlton defeated Bulldogs by 28 points
What happened? They were in front by 30 odd points in the third quarter and then lost by five goals? That is being outscored by 10 goals in 40 odd minutes. I wonder how much a big key forward would benefit the Bulldogs at the moment?
A question why carry someone off on your shoulders when he has only played 15 odd games for your side and give him the game ball instead of someone who has played 100 games and been there during the hard times?
