2008 AFL Round 5 Tips

Lloyd will add some firepower for Essendon
Lloyd will add some firepower for Essendon

St Kilda vs Essendon

St Kilda has lost two in a row but they have showed glimpses against both the Bulldogs and Geelong. Their problem seems to be maintaining pressure throughout the game.

Essendon played well against the Bulldogs but a horrid last quarter where they kicked 0.3 to 6.4 saw the game slip away. They were outplayed in the last quarter and injuries took their toll.

With that in mind, Essendon has injuries to key players and it’s hard to see if their young players will step up enough. St Kilda will come out firing and looking for blood.

Geelong vs Sydney

Only 3 teams remain undefeated and Geelong seems to be the best of the 3. They disposed of St Kilda and have a good chance to make it 5-0 against Sydney.

Sydney will sorely miss big bad Barry Hall after his king hit and then breaking his wrist. They flogged the Eagles but up against a quality opposition like Geelong I doubt they can win.
Geelong in an interesting game

Adelaide vs Fremantle

Adelaide would be disappointed after last week and will be extremely fired up this week at home against the Dockers.

Once again the Dockers are frustrating fans everywhere. They promise so much and deliver so little. Their senior players need to step up and take control otherwise this team will be in for a horrid year. Chris Tarrant (if he plays) has to play well otherwise his future will be in doubt.
Adelaide easily

Brisbane vs Hawthorn.

Brisbane was damn impressive in the last quarter against Port Adelaide. But that’s exactly it. Where were they for the rest of the game? They need to play four quarters of good football.

Hawthorn are looking great. 4-0 and on top of the ladder with Buddy Franklin on fire. My concern is that they might crash hard back to Earth. They don’t seem to look overly concerned when they’re losing. Confidence perhaps but maybe too much. They should beat the Lions but Brisbane at the Gabba might give them a good run for their money.
Hawthorn for me

Collingwood vs Kangaroos

Collingwood lost to Carlton. Enough said. They were out classed and they need to step up big against the Kangaroos this week otherwise they might slip to 2-3.

Can Collingwood bounce back after a disapointing last rounds loss?

The Kangaroos were good against Melbourne but it begs the question. How will they go against an opposition that has a game plan? Collingwood are probably favourites to win, but I think the Kangaroos might take the honours.

Melbourne vs Carlton

Melbourne are shocking. They might as well start looking to next season and bleed young players into the team and make the older player really play for their spots. They need to be competitive.

Carlton had a great win over the Magpies last week and may have finally started to hit their stripes. Judd and Fevola will take this game by the scruff of the neck and all of a sudden Carlton can be 2-3 and not in as much trouble as we thought.
Carlton comfortably.

Western Bulldogs vs Richmond

The Dogs started well and ended great last week against Essendon, and although surrendered the lead in the third quarter they applied enough pressure to stay in the game to win it in the final term.

Richmond played very well against the Dockers. But they did not play a quality opposition. They are looking good however and will put up a good fight against the similarly matched Bulldogs. However will they be able to run with the dogs? The Bulldogs should run them off their feet the same way they did to Essendon.
Bulldogs comfortably

West Coast vs Port Adelaide

Port Adelaide are useless. Winless and down the bottom end of the ladder they are in trouble. They are not playing like last year but are the exact same team we saw reach the Grand Final. Mark Williams needs to vacate the helm in my opinion.

West Coast are no better. They have no structure and Kerr’s comment that they will still make the finals is perhaps a little far fetched especially at the moment. They need to rebuild. Lynch needs to get the boot. Hansen and other key players need to lift because so far they’ve made little to no impact at all in any of their games. In saying that, they will still be hard to beat at home.

St Kilda will win - dropped Gehrig and brought in C Gardiner - Looks like Saints read Kick2Kick :P
Geelong just - I think even though Hall is out, this is the type of game and circumstances Sydney could beat Geelong in.
Adelaide - Fremantle are really struggling.
Hawthorn - Brisbane have a real chance however
Collingwood - Kangaroos struggle against top 4 teams and Collingwood should be one.
    Carlton - Melbourne win? Huh
Bulldogs - They are definitely top four material.
West Coast - Two of the biggest disappointments so far but West Coast at home. Kennedy to make his Eagles debut as well.

Essendon - Should run St Kilda off their feet.

Geelong - Can they be beaten?

Adelaide - Freo struggling, Adelaide at home a no brainer.

Brisbane - This is my roughy, I like the way Brisbane have been playing. Even though Port choked last week,it takes a good team to come back by that much of a margin. And its at the GABBA.

Collingwood - They will bounce back and have a real solid defense.

Carlton - The team is starting to gel.

Bulldogs - Too much class and pace in their midfield but Richmond are much improved.

West Coast - Only because its a home game.

Freo are no good Adelaide should smash em
Port to beat Brisbane in Brendan Lade’s 200th
Collingwood to many scoring options for the Roos

West Coast, agree with @johnnttruent because it is in WA
