2008 Round 2 AFL Tips

Posted on 28 March 2008 by SunCity_Royal

Brisbane vs Collingwood

Brisbane were impressive last week against the Eagles but were unable to defeat them. Collingwood ended up wining quite convincingly from the help of a prominent forward in Anthony Rocca.

I think it will be a close game with both teams forward lines with loads of potential. Brown, Bradshaw, Rocca and Cloke which should be a high scoring game. Collingwood has a stronger list but I think that Brisbane might take them in an inspired upset.

Des Headland has received a lot of attention this week about Fremantles recruitment policy of reclyed players.

Melbourne vs Western Bulldogs

Melbourne were rubbish once again and are the most likely to win the wooden spoon. No structure or anything to be excited about. The Bulldogs however won a close arm wrestle over Adelaide and showed they can win tough games.

It should be a blowout. The Demons only plus is they probably have more talls than the Bulldogs however they do not have the skill to use them to pressure the Dogs.

Adelaide vs West Coast

Adelaide were unlucky last week and they will be looking to rectify the loss with a home ground bout with the Eagles. Both teams look stable but do not have what it takes to be premiership contenders. West Coast won a fairly close game with the Lions and showed they have the players to cover the loss of Judd and Cousins.

Another very close game with both teams matching up fairly well against each other. I think The Crows might take the win only because it is at AAMI Stadium.

St Kilda vs Carlton

St Kilda are boring. They know how to win but their game is unexciting and low scoring. They beat Sydney last week who play similar. The Blues are finally back on earth after embarrassment against Richmond after all the hype about Fevola and Judd. Two players won’t win games!

St Kilda should win comfortably but don’t expect an exciting game or even many goals unless Carlton can pull a rabbit out of a hat and severely challenge the Saints to make it more exciting.
Saints by 21 pts

Fremantle vs Hawthorn

Yet again Fremantle has disappointed everyone. They don’t know how to win, how to recruit or even play their players where they’re needed. The Hawks on the other hand are sensational. They have a great list. Star players and the confidence to take it up to the big teams. They should have no trouble traveling to Subiaco and beating the band-aid boys.

Hawks should win, but don’t completely write off the Dockers, they are unpredictable and make it hard to tip for or against.
Hawks by 34 pts

Sydney vs Port Adelaide

Lost a flat broing game to the Saints and come into a game against a team who are the opposite. Power are talented and a young group of players who have flashy skills and ability to dazzle opponents. However they tend to get too defensive to quickly and have some problems with accuracy.

Port Adelaide should win unless the Swans can stifle their run and slow the game down. Which will be helped as its played at the SCG as Port may not have room to run.

Knights has proven that Essendon do have hope outside Sheedy and HirdGeelong vs Essendon

Should be a great game. Geelong is the team to beat and we saw why on the weekend. Didn’t even play their best but still managed to win. Essendon showed they have a bright future after disposing of the Kangaroos. Their young players are stepping up and everyone is happy post Sheedy-Hird era (so far).

Skilled Stadium has become Geelong’s fortress and it should continue this week. The Cats will probably prove too strong for the Bombers and will take the points home.

Richmond vs Kangaroos

The Tigers played good and proved they may still have some hope left under Terry Wallace. The Kangaroos were disappointing against the Bombers and need to pick up their game if they want to be finals contenders.

Tough one to pick. The Tigers are coming off a good win and the Roos of a poor performance. But it remains to be seen if Richmond can match it with the more experienced teams. I’m going to stick with the Tigers this week I think they may be able to capitalize on last week and win.

I do not think Fremantle are as bad as what people are making them out to be, its only one game. Collingwood are a top 6 side remember, so Ill stick by them for this round at Subi, Hawks dont travel well.

Also think Sydney play the SCG to well to loose to Port who dont play it well at all.

Bulldogs, Brisbane, Geelong and St Kilda are fairly easy picks due to home ground advantage or their opponent sucks.

West Coast should win a close game against Adelaide. Adelaide have Burton who is the only player who is better (imo) than their opponent.

Kangaroos will be mortified aftera soft game last week. Would be interesting to see how Richmond come out after winning, can they win two in a row? I dont think so.

There is no real structure to my tipping:
    Brissy Lions
    Bulldogs
    Adelaide Crows
Carlton (this ones for Ed and 2 stir germ)
    Port Adelaide
Hawthorn (this ones for you Dad)
THE ONE THE ONLY GEELONG! (that ones for me)
