The second part of the 2009 round 12 tips seeing the 8 games are split over two weeks to give the Players a mid season break.
What do you think of the split round and the fact that no AFL football will be on Saturday afternoon? Will you miss it or you looking forward to go to a local game?
Essendon vs Melbourne
Well after a nice rest the second half of the split round gets underway with the Bombers taking on a very youthful Melbourne side.
Essendon last week led at every change except for the last one that counts, against a much more experienced Crows side. And I guess it was experience in the end that cost them that game.
This week they will be welcoming back up to four senior players including Dustin Fletcher and Andrew Welsh which would definitely help the Bombers play a more consistent four quarters.
Melbourne continue to be the whipping boys as they got thrashed on the Queen’s Birthday, which if she was a Collingwood supporter- would be pretty pleased about that outcome.
Jack Watts made a positive start to his AFL career and looks set to get more AFL game time. Liam Jurrah a pre-season number 1 pick last year, will follow Jack’s lead and make his AFL debut this weekend.
As coach Dean Bailey keeps blooding his long list of rookies, I can’t see Melbourne winning another game this year let alone a meat raffle…..

Micky Malthouse celebrates his 600th game in the VFL/AFL this week
Sydney vs Collingwood
This should be a very close and competitive game as in my opinion both Collingwood and Sydney are playing a similar brand of football this year.
A win separates Collingwood and Sydney on the ladder and if the game was being played at the Auskick sized SCG I would have to favour the Swans outright.
But interestingly it is being played at the ANZ stadium where Collingwood have a good record winning their past 3 matches there.
It’s Micky ‘the ox is slow but the earth is patient’ Malthouse’s 600th game VFL/AFL game and the Magpies have beaten the Swans the last six times, but I smell a Sydney upset.

Fremantle vs Geelong
Fremantle will be welcoming back both Antoni Grover and Luke McPharlin which will be handy inclusions especially when they are up against the unstoppable Geelong.
Fremantle’s Freaking tall Ruckman Aaron Sandilands accumulates hit-outs like I get hay fever, very easily….but when you don’t have a great roving midfield-all it benefits is the other team. The Cats probably don’t even need to ruck just read the Big man for the palm down.
The only thing in Fremantle’s favour is the fact that Geelong have accumulated more flyby points by traveling west for the second time in three weeks.

Mate think your underestimating Fremantle. Last year they almost won and dominated most of the match, it took a brilliant game from Joel Selwood to win the game. I am almost tempted to tip them..
Ess
Coll
Geelong
The Collingwood vs Sydney game is another 50/50 call for me. Only tipping Collingwood as they have the wood on Sydney at the moment and they look more even around the ground.

Geelong will win by 10+ goals. They’ll learn there lesson from the West Coast game when they played in 2nd gear for 3 quarters.

i think the split round should be abandoned, and the AFL create a similar fixturea as the nrl…every team gets two weeks off a year, and the season runs a bit longer
anyway
Essendon-But i hope melbourne can win
Collingwood-But at home sydney are hard to beat
Geelong-Interesting to see if freo can push them again

No big surprises from me, although I’ve leaned away from the Magpies and back towards the Swans. So:
Essendon
Sydney
Geelong

I’m afraid I’m with Geoff on this one
Essendon
Sydney
Geelong
Also I think that Freo’ will not be the pushover that is expected, but Geelong will pull it off anyway
