Another big weekend of football with several upsets that also upset several tipping competitions with several top 8 teams loosing which totally opens up the ladder for Sydney for 8th spot and Carlton for 4th spot.
Carlton defeated Geelong by 35 points
Last week I wrote that Geelong was vulnerable and I think by their game against Carlton it showed why. They struggled to kick goals in succession and the injury worries just continue to add up with Johnson and many others (Mooney – hand, Wojcinski – ankle, Milburn – ankle & Stokes – thigh) looking sore.
While Geelong where bad, Carlton where good, they dominated the midfield and had winners everywhere. Simpson (3 goals) provided a good target to give Fevola (4 goals) some variety up forward.
Carlton run home: Port Adelaide (away), Melbourne (home) & Adelaide (home).
Geelong run home: Swans (away), Bulldogs (Dome) & Fremantle (home)
West Coast defeated Western Bulldogs by 5 points
This was the upset of the round with the Eagles unable to buy a win away from home, some say it was the ‘line drawn in the sand’ after the Dockers loss 3 weeks ago but I would say the faith that Worsfold has put in his young players is finally paying off. It needs to be remembered that this is the youngest 22 that the Eagles have played for well over 10-15 years.
Kennedy (4 goals), LeCras (3) are proving to be a headache for many defenses with LeCras surely in All Australian form this year with 49 goals and 6th on the goal kicking list.

No, Not my tooth! The depth for St Kilda was tested along with the Tasmanian dentist industry.
Good accurate goal kicking was the different with the Dogs having 12 more shots at goals but still going down. The Dogs have 3 big games left and its not without question that they will loose their last four with games against Brisbane (away), Geelong & Collingwood (both at Dome).
Western Bulldogs run home: Brisbane (away), Geelong (Dome) & Collingwood (DOme)
St Kilda defeated Hawthorn by 25 points
St Kilda failed to understand what everyone else thought was going to happen, they had 7 of their best 10 out and the Hawks was looking for a top 8 spot. To me this win showed just why St Kilda are undefeated and minus a miracle will win the premiership.
Its not the players why they are undefeated, its the team focus that you work your butt off for your mate. You had players like Armfield play his first game of the year and was among their best and they had the record of tackles in a game, 115!
Buddy and Roughead had one goal between them and Milne/ Schnieder kicked 6. No one was more happier with the win than Hawks reject Dawson.
St Kilda’s run home: Essendon (Dome), North (Dome) & Melbourne (MCG)
Hawthorns run home: Adelaide (MCG), Richmond (MCG) & Essendon (MCG)
Collingwood defeated Adelaide by 21 points
I think its time I acknowledge Collingwood as a serious threat for the finals. They have won their last 11 out of 14 interstate games and now sit 3rd a win clear from 4th. Swan is Brownlow favourite and they play a game that will ensure you have to play to a high standard to beat them.
At the moment, every game is worth 8 premiership points as Adelaide slipped from top 4 chances to 7th in the space of two weeks.
Adelaide opened up a 16 point lead in the 3rd quarter but that only kicked them into gear as they kicked 10 goals to 6 in the second half of the game. Didak was best with 31 possessions along with Swan & O’Brien.
Collingwoods run home: Richmond (MCG), Sydney (MCG) & Bulldogs (Dome)
Adelaide’s run home: Hawks (MCG), West Coast (home) & CArlton (Dome)
Essendon drew with Brisbane
While Essendon drew the game, they were the biggest loosers on the day as a win could of seen them slip back into the top 8. The second draw has seen another push for extra time to be played after a draw.
Bradshaw and Brown (5 behinds) only kicked one between them but the Bradshaw mark and goal in the last 20 seconds was the one that mattered. Neagle again kicked 3 to be the leading goal scorer on the ground.
Brisbane’s run home: Bulldogs (home), Port (home) & Swans (away)
Essendon run home: St Kilda (Dome), Fremantle (away) & Hawks (MCG)

Goodes at CHF was a match winning move & I would like him to see him finish his career there.
Sydney defeated Richmond by 55 points
This game showed up Richmonds culture issues yet again! While they may have a better list than Norths, at least you know you will have a team that will play for eachother unlike the Tigers.
They were outmuscled, out tackled and out played as a Goodes & White forward line (6 goals between them) was the difference with Morton & Riewoldt struggling. While Sydney got a few soft free kicks, Richmond struggled to play a game plan to beat Sydney and was their own worse nightmare.
Swans run home: Geelong (ANZ), Collingwood (MCG) & Brisbane (SCG)
North Melbourne defeated Melbourne by62 points
This games result was never in doubt but I am sure caretaker coach Crocker is happy as with his first win as coach.
We wont focus on Melbourne as they where terrible but good news for the Roos is that they again have found a new player in Goldstein who kicked 5 goals and had 25 hit outs. Lachie Hansen kicked 3 along with Petrie and surely this goes to show coach Bailey that you can still develop players, where they play and win at the same time.
Fremantle defeated Port Adelaide by 42 points
There was something in the air this weekend that had people tipping Fremantle. Even though a Port win would see them a game and a half clear of 9th spot! The game was all over with the Dockers kicking 6 straight in the first quarter as they out ran and were more hungry than Port who continue their hot and cold year. No wonder no one wants to coach their…
The best thing for the Dockers was it was the young guys in Greg Broughton (37 possessions), Matt de Boer (22 and eight clearances), Stephen Hill (22 touches) and Chris Mayne (four goals) that where the key players in the win.
Ports run home: Carlton (home), Brisbane (away) & North (home)

- Is this why the Dogs have not renewed Eade’s contract with a worrying trend of loosing games at the end of the season? (Every season Eade has been in charge they have struggled towards the end of the season).
- I am not surprised and I will refrain from saying “I told you so”. Sad day for the Dogs fans…
- Will the sales of mouth guards go up after Buddy’s toothless smile? Did you wear one?
- I never wore one! Too restricting (and yes I had a proper one) as it was too hard to yell at the umpires.
- Will the Dogs stay in the top 4? Will they win another game?
- BIG PERDICTION TIME: They will not win another game
- Was it ironic that Essendon did not get the four points when they tried to run the clock down?
- Apart from the underdogs winning on the weekend, this was the best news of the weekend! I hate seeing teams wind the clock down and its great to see them stuff it up and loose 2 premiership points and maybe their chances to get into the 8!
- Does the St Kilda win, prove its the team focus/ process and not the playing list with 7 out injured?
- Yes! While the Hawks were below average, the Saints did not miss the players at all.

Not everyone predicted a Saints loss.
Dogs loss the upset of the year.
Everyone may feel that the Bombers deserved to not get the 4 points, but Brown’s 5 behinds helped us even more.
Swans have a bad draw & won’t make it.

Ok maybe not everyone predicted a Saints loss, but most did especially with the Hawks pushing for a top 8 spot.
I agree that Swans wont make the finals and I cannot see the top 8 changing, the positions may change but that will be it!

only time will tell but i am pretty confident that both will bounce back.after all that is the measure of a good side, yes? sometimes a kick up the backside from a lesser team can be all that is needed to provide the spark. Dogs played pedestrian football against freo in the second half and carried it into the wce game and eventually paid dearly for it. the good thing now, is that the Dogs will HAVE to play at their very best to make the top4 and that means going back to the basics that have made them a top3 side for the past 40 odd home and away games. Our destiny really is in our own hands now and it begins on saturday night in what i think will be a very, very physical game.

I think Geelong are likely to bounce back when their players get fit. Not every team can cover several of their best players out through injury. I doubt even St Kilda could do it 2-3 weeks in a row, maybe an once off but not as long as Geelong have had injury worries this year.
The Dogs on the other hand are a different story imo. Yes they played very average football but not since the game against Hawthorn where they smashed them have they played four quarters of football. Agree they have to go back to the basics and only time will tell if they can.
