This post is were we update the talk and deals during the day so you can have the latest and official talk of the week. For all the rumours and hearsay, check out our rumour post for all the trade week rumours published last week.

Josh Gibson was the first person traded this week going from the Kangaroos to Hawthorn
If your interested in the draft picks order your club has, find them here.
We will edit this page as trades are completed and will make a comment so if your subscribed to comments you will be updated.
Monday 5th October
Normally we do not see any trades in the first two days but the Kangaroos and Hawks put aside the odds and traded early. This is good as it will allow the Hawks to talk for future trades, I think they should focus on ruckman rather than Burgoyne with Campbell retiring. I doubt the Kangaroos will feature in any other trades.
1st Trade
- Kangaroos swap Josh Gibson and draft pick (No. 69) for
- Draft pick (No. 25) and draft pick (No. 41) from Hawthorn.
2nd Trade
Interesting especially if Brisbane also trade away a player and another draft pick for Staker & Buchanan as reported so far.
- Brisbane swap draft pick (No. 44) for
- Richmonds Andrew Raines
3rd Trade
As expected with McLean going to Carlton, unsure if its a win for Carlton or not, may depend on their other trades.
- Melbourne swap Brock McLean to
- Carlton for draft pick (11)
4th Trade
Brisbane get two finals experienced players, Sydney gets a ruckman (replacement if Jolly moves) and Eagles get Dalziell plus picks being swapped.
EDIT: looks like Brisbane get pick 39 instead of Sydney…
- West Coast LOSE: Brent Staker, Mark Seaby & draft pick 39 and GAIN: Brad Dalziell & draft pick 22.
- Sydney LOSE: Amon Buchanan & draft pick 22 and GAIN: Mark Seaby & draft pick 28 & 39.
- Brisbane LOSE: Brad Dalziell & draft pick 28 and GAIN: Brent Staker, Amon Buchanan and draft pick 39.
Tuesday 6th October
Will we see more trades today with Fevola, Jolly, Burgoyne, Lovett & Ball still looking for new clubs?
5th Trade
Bulldogs finally get their man in Barry Hall, the draft picks are still to be sorted but from what we understand this is what will happen. We will edit/ update/ fix it when its official.
- Swans swap Barry Hall and draft pick 54 for
- Bulldogs draft picks 47 & 63.
6th Trade
Andrew Lovett highly tipped to go to either Brisbane or Port has been stolen by St Kilda who have continued their recycled player phase.
- St Kilda swap their draft pick 16 for
- Essendon’s Andrew Lovett.
Wednesday 7th October
Still no trade with Burgoyne, Fevola, Ball and Jolly who remain the big names still looking for a club. If anything happens today, it will be bit players traded for 3rd and 4th round picks with these big name trades happening on Friday.
7th Trade
This is part of the three way trade between West Coast, Sydney & Brisbane on Monday (trade 4) with Sydney & Brisbane swapping 3rd round picks, think Brisbane have been robbed personally as Amon and pick 47 is not worth pick 28 and 39.
- Brisbane trade draft pick (39) for
- Sydney’s draft pick (47).
PM Report: The Burgoyne, Ball & Jolly trades do not look any closer to being agreed on, news is that the Fevola deal with Brisbane is however closer to be finalised. Doubt Fevola will move to Brisbane…
8th Trade
- Fremantle‘s traded Brett Peake for
- St Kilda‘s draft pick (48).
Thursday 8th October
Rumours are circulating that Sydney have traded Darren Jolly to Collingwood for picks 14 and 46 but will only happen if Sydney can get Mumford from Geelong. I will not add it here until the deal is set in stone.
9th Trade
- Richmond traded Jay Schulz to
- Port Power for Mitch Farmer.
10th Trade
Some more bit players being traded with Xavier Clarke (after a knee reconstruction) going to Brisbane. I wonder why coach Voss is going for broke with his trades this year. Wonder if its due to the Gold Coast coming in 2010?
- Brisbane traded their draft pick 60 for
- St Kilda‘s Xavier Clarke.
11th Trade
The Sydney and Collingwood deal with Jolly is now official, so I am assuming that the Mumford deal will be close. Collingwood wins hands down with this trade but I doubt they will be getting Luke Ball now.
- Sydney traded Darren Jolly to
- Collingwood for draft picks 14 & 46.
12 Trade
- Geelong traded Shane Mumford to
- Sydney for draft pick 28.
13th Trade
This trade is a big win for Sydney imo as they get two ball magnets which will see them be a huge part of the midfield that looked old and slow at times this year.
- Hawthorn traded Josh Kennedy & Ben McGlynn for
- Sydney‘s draft picks 39, 46 & 70.
14th Trade
Finally the Hawks get their man in Burgoyne but did they give up to much for him? Four clubs were involved in this complex trade, try and understand it if you can.
- Geelong gave up draft picks 33,
- while Essendon gave up Jay Nash and draft picks 16 & 42.
- Hawks gave up Mark Williams and their draft pick 9, while
- Port Adelaide gave up Shaun Burgoyne and draft picks 24, 40 & 56.
and the four clubs gained the following:
- Geelong gained draft picks 40, 42 & 56.
- Essendon gained Mark Williams and draft picks 24 & 33.
- Hawks gained Shaun Burgoyne and
- Port Adelaide gained Jay Nash and draft picks 9 & 16.
Friday 9th October
Expect a lot of trades to happen today, we may even get to 20+ trades, now that must be a first.
15th Trade
- Fremantle traded Marcus Drum to
- Geelong for draft pick 49.
16th Trade
Fevola is now a Lion and they get to keep Bradshaw and Rischetelli, Bradshaw will probably play defense with Fevola and Brown playing forward. Brisbane big winners…
- Carlton trade Brendon Fevola and draft pick 27 to
- Brisbane for Lachie Henderson and draft pick 12.
17th Trade
- Essendon trade draft pick 89 to
- Hawthorn for draft pick 58.

Your Views
You happy with your clubs trading? Tell us why you are or are not and what you think will happen to Luke Ball, will he go to Melbourne? Who do you think is the big winner out of this weekend? Brisbane, Sydney, Port or some other team?

October 5th, 2009 at 9:55 am
good trade for both parties, scott looks to have the makings of building a great culture at the roos and it starts with shifting the blokes who don’t want to be there, jerm i read that scott wants to move on sam power and daniel harris for similar reasons so we will see what happens…hawks get a solid defender which will ease a lot of pressure.
October 5th, 2009 at 9:59 am
I agree Scott looks to have the makings and I think his comments about Gibson was good. They gave him a chance on the rookie list and helped him through his slip in the bathroom were he cracked his head.
Personally I doubt Sam Power would get any offers from any clubs…
October 5th, 2009 at 10:04 am
same, too flighty, you really have to be an inside and outside player these days and the dogs have done the right thing in moving on blokes like him, mcmahon and ray.
harris could be of value to a team lacking good clearance players, richmond perhaps…
October 5th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
Next trade updated…
Interesting seeing Brisbane swap for Raines as reportily they have also traded Dalziell and pick 28 for Staker and Buchanan. If it happens and they do not trade any others, their draft picks picks will be: 12, 60 and 76…

October 5th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
Another trade completed with McLean going to Carlton for pick 11. Would almost be a record with 3 trades in the opening day, normally it takes until half way through Friday for this amount of trades to happen.
And this is not including the swap with Seaby, Staker and Buchanan with West Coast, Sydney & Brisbane.
October 5th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
The WCE/ Sydney & Brisbane trade has been completed (see above). Think West Coast & Sydney are the winners and Brisbane is the looser of the complicated trade.
West Coast LOSE: Brent Staker, Mark Seaby & draft pick 39 and GAIN: Brad Dalziell & draft pick 22.
Sydney LOSE: Amon Buchanan & draft pick 22 and GAIN: Mark Seaby & draft pick 28.
Brisbane LOSE: Brad Dalziell & draft pick 28 and GAIN: Brent Staker, Amon Buchanan and draft pick 39.
EDIT: Brisbane get pick 39 instead of Sydney
October 5th, 2009 at 3:29 pm
brisbane are playing a very dangerous game, eagles have got a steal in dalziell. he is a gut runner and will find plenty of space and the pill on the wide open spaces at subi. given that most attention will be on kerr, priddis and embley, dalziell and masten will be sure things in my DT next year.
October 5th, 2009 at 3:37 pm
Dalziell’s disposal is a worry though imo but he will provide some great run and if Kerr and Priddis can play a full season, their midfield does look dangerous.
Also Brisbane gained the pick 39 not Sydney, imo that evens up the swap a bit more as Brisbane get two players in positions they need with a forward foil in Buchanan, a pick 39 (better than the pick 44 they swapped for Raines) and Staker who can provide be backup in defense and forward.
October 6th, 2009 at 8:37 am
And Sydney and Bulldogs get the deal done. Amazing too see so many trades so far, in the last few days we haven’t seen this many trades all week let alone one day and the 5th Sydney deal done early on the 2nd day.
Wonder what the Dogs fans think of Hall joining their team pretty much for nothing…
October 6th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
wow St Kilda snatched Lovett from Port and Brisbane with their first round pick (#16). This imo meets the Saints needs of pacey midfielders who can kick goals, good pick and could be a win/ win for both teams with Essendon two picks now in the first round.
October 6th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
Re Hall: Not sure how i feel at the moment, it certainly sets the kids back another two years, i understand the dogs thinking in allowing johnno, aker and perhaps eagleton to play on as well as getting hall but there is certainly talk that guys like grant, everitt, o’keefe and even josh hill are frustrated at the lack of opportunities, we definitely need to find the right balance as these kids are our future and we don’t want to lose them…
Re Lovett: Certainly adds speed and goalkicking prowess, will be interesting to see how lyon uses him and whether he will be able to adapt to a ‘team first’ environment. honestly i thought essendon would/should have got more for him…
October 6th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Good point above maybe Lovett going a bit too cheap especially with McLean going for pick 11.
October 6th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
hey all
any news on the burgoyne saga
October 6th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
@ronnie – not yet and to be honest I would not be surprised if nothing gets done especially with Hawthorn as Port are asking a bit much for him (good player + pick 9).
October 6th, 2009 at 6:55 pm
i read with interest that choco thinks number 9 would be the equivalent of about 16 or 17 in any other draft given the gold coast got the pick of the 17yr olds. the guy is an all australian, premiership player, is vice captain of their club and is only 26, i would be wanting something a bit more significant then pick 9 and a spare parts player too.
October 7th, 2009 at 8:57 am
Yes Burgoyne is all that but lets look at the down points. He has dodgy knees, an outside player and has baggage by playing under Choco Williams. Pick 9 is more than fair, yes his draft may be ‘slim’ but with Lovett traded for a round 16, I think a #9 and a bit player like McGyln or Kennedy is about right. Interesting the Hawks have offered Campbell Brown along with pick 9…
Some other trade rumours/ news is that the Dogs are looking at WCE Nicoski, Kangaroos looking at Brisbane’s McDonald, Hawks looking (Demons) Paul Johnson as well as Port looking at (Demons) Mark Jamar & (Richmonds) Jay Schulz with Collingwood looking at both Jolly & Ball and no one is really interested in Fevola – surprise surprise…
October 6th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
wow a bit of a shake up for everyone. Its going to be a very big trade week. Wasnt 2 suprised that Seaby was traded though.
October 7th, 2009 at 9:04 am
looks like the speculation of lake leaving the dogs is over with lake signing a 4 year deal
October 7th, 2009 at 11:57 am
@Mike which is good to see…
I did not see Lake going anywhere though. Whats your views of Hall signing?
October 7th, 2009 at 2:16 pm
“Yes Burgoyne is all that but lets look at the down points. He has dodgy knees, an outside player and has baggage by playing under Choco Williams. Pick 9 is more than fair, yes his draft may be ’slim’ but with Lovett traded for a round 16, I think a #9 and a bit player like McGyln or Kennedy is about right.”
The same could be said about Daniel Kerr, injury prone, doesn’t cope with a tag etc, but in all honesty would you accept pick 9 and ben mcglynn for him…i think not.
October 8th, 2009 at 7:07 am
So how far away are we from the Fevola, Bradshaw, Rischetelli deal?? As a carlton fan if we are going to lose Fev I think this is the way to go.
October 8th, 2009 at 10:21 am
@Geaghs – I agree that if your going to loose Fevola, this is the best step as you get a replacement Full Forward who can kick 70+ goals however do you need another midfielder?
@Bob – St kilda still have Luke Ball who wants out, so expect them to trade him for draft picks (likely two 2nd round picks). Ralph Clarke is another who may get a 4th round but to find someone silly enough to take him will be the hard part.
October 8th, 2009 at 9:25 am
If StK have swooped on first Lovett and now Peake they must be planning to off load someone for a draft pick or two. Does anyone know??
October 8th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
Probably not, but with Stevens now retiring and a few other players on the outer I am sure we can put him in there somewhere.
October 8th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
@Geaghs – Have heard that Rischetelli is not keen to go to Carlton, after all he did have his eye gouged by Judd.
In other trade news, Ports defender Farmer has been traded for Richmond’s Schulz, think these trades are good, as it saves their careers as both probably would have been delisted at the end of the season anyway. Other news is that the Hawks and Port are still at logger heads and the AFL may be called in to see a resolution.
October 8th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
Yeah, I have heard that to. Which brings up an interesting question. how much say do players have in where they end up?? And what happens if a player does end up going somewhere he doesn’t want to.
October 8th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
It used to happen a lot in the 80′s and early 90′s and the players used to just not play. It was the case for a lot of players being shafted to Brisbane. WCE for one example recruited Tim Watson but he did not go over and play for them (and only visited once), then was delisted by WCE and picked up by Essendon in ’93 and played in the premiership team.
In other news the Jolly/ Collingwood trade is now Official and St Kilda gain a draft pick by trading Xavier Clarke, a #5 pick in the 2001 draft. Think Collingwood got a steal with only giving up #14 and #46, Sydney are slipping…
October 8th, 2009 at 8:44 pm
and the Hawks finally get their man with a complex four man trade featuring Geelong, Essendon and Port. Also updated the others trades which saw Mumford go to Sydney along with Hawks Kennedy & McGlynn.
Who do you think won out of the trades? Think Port did well along with Sydney picking up Kennedy & McGlynn. Essendon also did well. Think Hawthorn gave up too much and they meet their need for a backman but what about their ruck division?
October 9th, 2009 at 8:34 am
WOW Brisbane get a steal in trading Lachie Henderson and pick 12 to get Fevola and also pick 27…
Marcus Drum is also a Cat now for a cheap pick of #49, expect him to be cover for Tom Harley.
Now just need to see Luke Ball traded and then all the big names will be traded in Fevola, Burgoyne, Jolly, Williams and Lovett.
October 9th, 2009 at 8:37 am
wow. Brisbane Lions are definately the big winners out of this week.
Fevola, Bradshaw. Brown. the Lion triangle. thank goodness for the dogs that we re-signed brian lake. now we reall need to get Tom Williams right so we can put Lake on Brown/Fevola, Morris on Bradshaw, and Williams on Fevola/Brown.
i simply have one thing to say about the lions season next year. Beware. they might just be major challengers for the flag next year

October 9th, 2009 at 8:55 am
All I can say is that we really must have wanted to get rid of Fev. And I suppose any deal is better then having him sit on the sideline and not play for us next year while still paying him. Hopefully we use pick 12 quickly this morning to pick up a forward or it could be another long couple of seasons.
On the up side we now have plenty of Money under the salary cap to keep Walker, Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer. In a copule of years time we will have a fairly dominatn midfield. And with Cloke, O’Hailpin, Betts, Garlett, Yarran, Fisher, Waite we still have an alright options for the forward line, nothing special but it will have to do.
October 9th, 2009 at 8:56 am
And I forgot about Hampson & Warnock as well in the ruck which means we can push Kreuzer forward. So all in all, it’s not great but it’s not that bad either.
October 9th, 2009 at 12:32 pm
I have now updated the post which will list every club on what they gained and lost during the trade including their picks for the up and coming draft.
@Geaghs, your just grasping at straws mate…
Carlton along with Hawthorn are the big loosers of the week as I think both teams are worse off after their trades. Carlton now have no forward line and have not strengthen their weak defense and Hawks lost depth in Kennedy & McGlynn and a forward foil in Williams and have no draft picks, way too much in getting Burgoyne. Plus do not forget they have no ruckman with Bailey out with a knee and Campbell retiring mid week.
Brisbane indeed were the biggest movers and now have depth unlike this year. Wonder where Bradshaw will play (CHB??).
To be honest I also like Sydney this week, yes they lost Jolly but they picked up Seaby & Mumford which will be out to prove themselves and Seaby can play forward. Kennedy & McGylnn will also provide great run and their midfield looks better which will allow Goodes to play CHF.
October 9th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
Maybe mate, but with the news that is breaking now about Fev allegedly sexually assaulting a woman on Brownlow night (and Carlton knowing about it) I am not to sure how much game time he might get for the Lions.
And I am actually glad we have decided to take a stand, our club as become a bit of laughing stock due to both on and off field antics of late so I am happy to bear a bit of pain to get the right club culture back. And with so much youth running around, I don’t want one sour grape ruining the whole bunch.
Our Forward Line will be weak but it’s not going to be that bad, Cloke (5 in the VFL Grand Final and looked quite good) & Fisher (played well in the VFL all year) can step up out of the VFL (I actually thought both these guys were going to get traded, they are probably lucky that we got rid of Fev). Waitey back from injury can go forward to (especially if Henderson is a defender which I am sure I read somewhere that he is).
I will agree with you on our defense, it’s been horrible for about 5 years and by the looks of it, it will probably be bad for another 5.
October 9th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
How’s this for a juciy rumour reported on the Fox Sports Draft Blog
“Meanwhile, a Melbourne radio station is reporting Bradshaw has ‘retired’ and still may end up at a Melbourne club through the pre-season draft. Carlton were the team mentioned. Perhaps that is the reason the deal went through in Brisbane’s favour today.”
Anybody hear this one?? (and yes I am hrasping at straws here
)
October 9th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
@Geaghs – i did read that rumour but apart from the fan who said it, I have yet to hear anything else about it. I heard that Bradshaw failed the fitness test that Carlton put them through yesterday.
In regards to Cloke & Fisher, some players look good in the seconds (VFL, WAFL etc) but they just cannot take that next step. Carlton need to pull a rabbit out their hat for them to make the finals again next year. What about Robbo and or Nathan Brown finding a third club with their low draft picks?
October 11th, 2009 at 6:34 am
Interesting to know why Carl off-loaded Fev, yet kept O’Hailpin after his tantrum last year.
October 12th, 2009 at 8:36 am
I think its got a lot to do with Chris Judd personally, he is a very dominate figure at Blue Land and what he wants, he gets….
May be an article in that.
October 12th, 2009 at 9:57 am
Maybe that’s why Rischitelli didn’t want to go there. To me its not a good sign when players want to avoid particular clubs.
October 12th, 2009 at 11:43 am
I think it was more that O’Hailpin incident was his first warning where as Fev has had a few warnings. Plus this was only a dust up between two team mates on a training field, this has happened numerous times in other clubs/codes, nothing compared to what Fev has done and allegedly done over the course of his career..
Also the latest rumor I have heard about Fev at the Brownlow involved some indecent actions towards Rebecca Twigley (and if what I have heard is true, I am glad he is gone) which could explain why Judd decided to no longer back him (and allegedly give the me or him ultimatum).
As for Rischitelli, he has been offered up as a trade a few times now and every time has stated he does not want to leave, maybe he just really like playing/living in Brisbane.
