Adelaide’s 2010 Dreamteam Preview

Posted on 08 February 2010 by

The big question for us players of DreamTeam is will the Crows players continue their good away form from last season to give us that extra boost to our points totals??

With a team average of 1122 per player, they were consistent enough to be 42 points on average better at home than on the road, not counting the “Showdown” games & the game on the Gold Coast .vs. Richmond.

Bernie Vince had a break out year in 2009, can he continue that form for 2010?

They have the easiest draw for that group estimated to be battling for 4th to 7th so points are ripe for the pickings. The average cost of the 31 players that lined up in 2009 is around $295,300.

So, who would be the best buys for season 2010? Here’s a list to ponder over.

Best Value Buys

Bernie Vince (midfield) $441,400 – A career best season in 2009 for the 24 year old midfielder with over 30 disposals 5 times in 2009, 4 of those in Victoria. Ranked 12th in DT score, 17th on average, Vince is estimated to be around $4,500 cheaper on a weighted scale.

Vince ranks 8th in disposals, 11th in disposals on average, 12th in handballs & 17th in kicks. A great DT bargain only with “SuperCoach” over charging by around $52,000.

Andrew McLeod (defence) $337,300 – After a shaky start to 2009, McLeod came into his own once again. With 30 or more disposals 4 times in 2009, it’s his work going into 50 that counts. McLeod is ranked 5th in total inside 50’s & 12th in goal assists. That’s pretty handy stats for a defender & tells me he’ll get his hands on the ball a lot.

At approximately $3,400 cheaper, can the 34 year old superstar go around again??

Risky Bargain Buys

Myke Cook (midfield) $197,400 – May have played only 3 games in 2009, but 2 of those were on the road, including the win .vs. Collingwood in round 1. Averaged 45.0 in those 3 games & NAB Cup run could be useful. He could be a bargain if your salary cap gets low.

Brett Burton (forward) $229,400 – It wasn’t going to be a spectacular 2009 for Burton after coming back from a knee reconstruction & only getting 5 games, but Burton ranked 16th on goals per game in those 5 games. At $229,400 he could be a cheap risk if you’re looking to fill a gap up forward.

Jonathon Griffin (ruck ) $210,900 – Griffin played just the 2 games in 2009, but he’s a great tap ruckman. Maric can’t be played flat out & Tippett has to remain up forward. May be a cheap sneaky.

James Sellar (ruck) $163,600 – Arguably the first option in the 2nd ruck for the Crows & ranked 5th in the rising star class for hitouts & 7th in hitouts per game. Sellar had a ripper game .vs. Carlton in round 22 so momentum could be good coming into 2010.

Rory Sloane (midfield) $175,800 – Sloane only played the one game, but he’s 40% cheaper than what he should be. He played in the win vs Hawthorn at the MCG, so he obviously can handle the pressure cooker situations well being on the road & against what was the reigning premier at the time.

Crows Top 10 of 2009 (With 2010 Prices & Estimated Value)

  1. Bernie Vince $441,000 (-$4,400)
  2. Scott Thompson $$430,200 (+$25,800)

  9. Brad Symes $350,800 (+$17,500)
  10. Nathan Van Berlo $343,100 (+$24,000)

Born in Warragul, West Gippsland, Victoria. I’m married with 2 beautiful young girls & a cat (Hirdy). One is at school & the other has autism. I support Essendon but I’m not the one-eyed feral type. Played footy for 1 year in under 15s. Was roped in, actually, as my brother was in the team & they were short of players. Terrible team, mind you. Coach had his sons in the midlfield & they were dreadful. What I do?? Not a lot, unfortunately. Cutting a long story short, illness for 24 years this year (ended footy career) & Johnny’s “workplace” laws forced its hand even more. Love to work, but unfortunately part time is the go these days. Now, spend my time doing community radio sports show on Saturdays & wife suggested I build excel programs on sports leagues & other calculations. Enjoy my “twittering” that I recently discovered.

To be honest I never thought of Bernie Vince, I may have to have a better look at him as when I added my midfielders I went straight for Swan & Ablett.
