AFL 2008 Round 14 tips pt1

Posted on 27 June 2008 by SunCity_Royal

Expect a few crackers this split round but also expect some teams to be blown out of the water, especially as the tanking issue once again rises it’s ugly head with Port Adelaide opting to leave out 4 big names.

Crawford a huge inclusion for the Hawks

Hawthorn vs West Coast

Hawthorn was disappointing against the Kangaroos last week. They looked like they didn’t pay North enough respect especially with the comments made beforehand by the idiotic Jeff Kennett. They will be looking to bounce back this week against the dismal Eagles.

I’m not going to say anything about West Coast. But I really think John Worsfold needs to accept that his club is in trouble at the moment, and WILL NOT win a premiership within 3 years.
Hawks easily

Richmond vs Carlton

Richmond are starting to come of age. They played a good game last week at AAMI Stadium and will come out firing again this week.

Carlton will be bitterly disappointed with their performance and will come out breathing fire. I’m very much leaning towards Richmond but for some reason I keep thinking Carlton.
The Blues in a close one

Kangaroos vs St Kilda

St Kilda are still extremely disappointing. At the beginning of the year everyone talked them up and yet again they have shown they are overrated and not to be taken seriously. A boring win against Fremantle and probably didn’t deserve it.

North Melbourne was very good but I still don’t see how they can ever win a premiership with the team that they have at the moment. They need new players to go with the talented recruits they have and set a path to a future premiership.
Kangaroos win

Western Bulldogs vs Port Adelaide

The Dogs are coming off another big win, this time against a gallant Collingwood. I think even if Collingwood had 22 fit men on the field the Dogs still would have taken the win. They didn’t play as well as they would’ve liked but are able to get the job done.

Port Adelaide are finished. They’ve accepted defeat and have packed up for the season. Huge omissions this week and the AFL should take note of this, because Port Adelaide are OFFICIALLY tanking. You only have to look at the names left out of this weeks clash in Darwin.
Dogs easily

Melbourne vs Brisbane

Melbourne are still hopeless. But at least they’re showing some fighting spirit on and off the field. I’m glad they’re starting to play ok footy but they have a very long way to go.

Brisbane are purring along very nicely at the minute. A nice win against the Crows have them firmly in the top 8. They should well crush the Demons this week. Bradshaw makes his return which will strengthen their forward line.
Lions win

Fremantle vs Essendon

Fremantle are still one of the most disappointing teams this year. They promised so much and had the talent to back it up, but like St Kilda they have crashed and burned this year. They can play well, and should beat Essendon at Subiaco this week. Congratulations to Mark Johnson who plays his 200th.

Essendon on the other hand, have been up and down this season. They’ve had brilliant performances against the Kangaroos and Carlton, but then dismal performances against Geelong and other teams. They are a young side and look to be ok for the future, but at the present they aren’t traveling that well. At Subiaco they should fall to the Dockers, but then again, who knows which Fremantle will turn up.
Fremantle win

Hawks should win easily - Lets hope that its at least a contest!

Richmond - I am getting on the Tigers bandwagon and lets hope they do get a good crowd.

Kangaroos - St Kilda I think was too reactionary to bring back Del Santo who from reports struggled in the VFL.

Bulldogs - PA do play well up in Darwin but like the Eagles, its all about next year.

Brisbane - last time they played at the MCG they were humbled however they should win against Melbourne.

Essendon - Essendon have a good record against Freo and while I applaud Freo for dropping Farmer and Black, lets hope they do NOT do a St Kilda and bring them back.
