AFL 2008 Round 15 Wrapup

Posted on 14 July 2008 by Jermayn

All the talk this round will be the Fremantle and Geelong game, not because of the closeness or the great contest but rather the cheap shots and the fall out from Solomon loosing his ‘wisdom’.

St Kilda defeated Carlton by 32 points

Chris Judd wound the clock back with his awesome first 10 minutes in the last quarter but it was not enough as St Kilda had a more even side (which just goes to show how uneven Carlton are). St Kilda is a much better side with just Kozi, Riewoldt and Milne up forward.

All the news however is the contract talk off Brendon Fevola, I liked what Ratten said and gave him the words “sign or go elsewhere”. Maybe Fevola is trying to pitch a new TV series for Channel 10 with Big Brother in its last season.

Collingwood defeated Adelaide by 32 points

What a bad day for Adelaide, their buss hit a pot hole dug by Collingwood supporters, loose Burton and Porplyzia to season ending injuries. Lets hope Burton gets back after his ACL.

Collingwood after some poor mid season form is looking much better with wins over Adelaide and Sydney in round 14, as talked about in the mid season review Collingwood is a real chance for top four with a soft draw.

Geelong defeated Fremantle by 74 points

Lets forget the game, lets talk about Solomon the (not so) wise, Geelong loosing Ablett and Ling and the verbals that has happened after the game.

Dean Solomon's elbow collects Cameron Ling\'s cheek.

Dean Solomon is a coward and lets hope that along with other cowards like Barry Hall they do NOT play again. While I think the game has gotten soft, hitting players and breaking their jaw is not tough and the book should be thrown at them.

Lots has been written and talked about Fremantle and why they suck and the game on Saturday showed why, they are a bunch of thugs and have no leadership (where was Pav? Hiding?) at all. I think Tom Harley’s comments was very spot on.

Kangaroos defeated Port Adelaide by 2 points

This was the closest game but perhaps the most boring as less than 20, 000 turned up and the game was full off errors and bad kicking, just ask Tredera! If Kangaroos keep playing like that, they do not deserve to play finals.

Essendon defeated Brisbane by 37 points

This round was like a rewound from yesteryear with dirty play and in this game big scores, both teams scored well over 100 points with both teams key forwards kicking 9 goals between them. David Hille is really playing some good football at the moment.

Hawthorn defeated Sydney by 31 points

Hawks are definitely a chance to win this years Grand Final, while most already knew that, I think they will not for a few reasons

  1. Bad goal kicking especially from their key forwards.
  2. Backline is a bit weak.
  3. Carry on tribunal points.

Yes Buddy is awesome but his kicking? A worry for me

Sydney however has fooled everyone along with Adelaide and both teams will be lucky to even make the finals as they have both struggled against teams higher than them this year.

Richmond defeated West Coast by 77 points

Richmond is a team to watch, maybe not this year but to beat both WA teams at Subiaco in the same year would be a first for them, let alone probably in the AFL. While they do not have a star studded team, they have a team that is starting to work for each other. Their forward line is looking very dangerous with Brown, Morton, Hughes, Riewoldt and Richardson to come back.

The Eagles? Yes Tigers are a better side than the Eagles but a 12 goal better side? I do not think so. Yes the season is a right off and Daniel Rich added in this years draft will be nice but a 11 goal quarter? Shameless and they really need to look at themselves. Just not good enough.

Bulldogs defeated Melbourne by 31 points

Bulldogs is imo the most luckiest team in the comp at the moment. They faced Hawks without several stars and now they will face Geelong minis Ablett and Ling. While they do deserve were they are and I would think that they are a serious chance to beat them.

Melbourne is by no way the worst team in the competition and they are a real chance to escape winning the Wooden Spoon.

I reckon it is going to take us more than Rich to improve things at the Eagles. But the early picks are at least some light at the end of the tunnel.

Sydney are looking in trouble right now with Hall and now Buchanan getting 5 weeks. that’s a massive penalty.

  2. Jermayn Says:

Yes Rich wont make much of a difference if they continue to play this way with no confidence etc.

I did not see the Buchanan hit but 4 weeks (pleaded guilty, one week off) for a bump must have been very VERY dangerous with him getting equally the 2nd highest suspension this year.

btw like I said I expect Adelaide and Sydney to both struggle to make the finals as they both have hard games left.

Sydney play Carlton, Adelaide, Bulldogs, Freo (win), Geelong, Collingwood and Brisbane (win).
Adelaide play Port (win), Sydney, Carlton, Tigers (win), Bombers, St Kilda, Bulldogs.

Should be interesting, I think most interest will be who gets into the 4-8th spots and who finishes last (Eagles favoured imo).
