Thanks for taking the time to look up this question and trying to clarify the question/ statement. Guess my source was wrong (which I wont say as then you could cheat and get the future answers :P ).

I will edit and rephrase the question to be "In which year did Richmond first play" or something.

I think these quizzes are fun, so I will revisit them during the off season etc.

Was wasting some time and noticed the "Richmond" question remained unresolved. I finally figured out what you ment in your last comment. I found this (my bolding):

A team of footballers playing as Richmond is mentioned by the newspapers in the first years of Australian football, circa 1860.[1] HCA Harrison, the so-called "father of the game", captained Richmond briefly at this time before moving to Geelong.[2] This loosely organised group has no continuity to the present club. A number of teams formed in the Richmond area during the game's rapid expansion of the 1870s and early 1880s.[3] However, all played at a junior level and it was considered an anomaly that Richmond, one of Melbourne's biggest locales, didn't boast a senior team. The wait ended when the Richmond Football Club was officially formed at the Royal Hotel in Richmond on February 20, 1885.

For your intended answer to be correct, your question should have been: What was the first year a team identified as Richmond first play Australian Rules football? The Wikipedia (give it its correct name and there's a chance we'll understand what you're referring to) article makes if very clear that this earlier group was not the Richmond Football Club.

But Richmond was playing and had a team 20 odd years before this...

Like I said before, look at the wiki before the above quotation. You will see a date which is the answer.
BTW all these questions and answers are from an official AFL source (which probably still could be wrong  ).

I think Chirpin has #9 right. The RFC website chronology has the following first entry:

"1885
Meeting convened at Byrnes Punt Hotel, Punt Road, Richmond, whereby Richmond Football Club was formed. Councilor JC Winn elected President. At another meeting held in the Temperance Hall, Church Street, Richmond, resolved colors of Club were to be blue. First senior match played against Williamstown. Captain: Mr George Smith."

Question 10 is right with Murry wining 9 F&B however question 9 is not right. Richmond played games earlier than that, unofficially but they were a club....

Yes you are correct for both Jim Stynes Number and the info about Jack Elder. Im a bit confused by what you mean about my source but I know he umpired a whole heap of games but the question was again a trick question asking if he umpired 40 odd games in a row. Maybe I should have made the gap less....

Interesting to read his philoshpy on umpiring - wish todays would follow it

Even in the hardest fought match it is important to remain calm. Use the whistle only when required. League football is not a genteel sport for schoolgirls and the term 'rough' is often misapplied. That borderline between manly vigour and roughhouse tactics is sometimes a little vague. The term 'rough football' should I think be used sparingly. 'Hard play' differs greatly from the sly bump, the kicks at ankles, the trips and the knees jolted in the backs that constitute rough and illegal play.
