What a week for upsets, the mighty Geelong Cats turned into a horrible mess, the rock solid Adelaide Crows out classed by the Baby Eagles and not to mention the Kangaroos making Brad Johnson’s smile disappear for once after losing the game and second spot for his team.
Also, the new Interchange rule failed with a goal given when it should have not been. How can the umpires officiate the rule if they themselves do not know it? Anderson your an idiot for bringing this into the game.

Collingwood defeated Geelong by 86 points
Before Friday night the question was, who will still be undefeated at the end of round 17 when Hawthorn and Geelong meet. This is no longer the question as Collingwood showed that while Geelong may be able to escape against lower sides like Fremantle and Richmond, you cannot against an even side like the Magpies.
While I do NOT think Collingwood are the real deal they are a even team and will always challenge and make you play good football or you will lose. Geelong’s holes in defense and some injuries to S Johnson, Ablett and Ling will start to worry them.
Carlton defeated Fremantle by 9 points
Does anything need to be said about Fremantle? First time ok, second time a form slump, third time maybe we have a problem but the fourth time in a row by leading at 3/4 time and still losing? Houston we have a problem…
Michael Voss called Pavlich a star, but then he missed three shots at goal in the last quarter including two easy ones. A star is one thing but a super star? A super star is when you kick those goals and WIN the game for your side, Ablett snr, Carey etc all did this and they were super stars, Pav is not.
Carlton were brave and did enough to win, not top 8 material but you keep winning games, you never know.
Sydney defeated Port Adelaide by 11 points
Port will rue their first few weeks when they lost game after game as it will cost them a spot in the 8 to challenge the Hawks and Geelong. Sydney will always be there abouts and some of their young kids will ensure they will play finals again this year. Plus do not forget Barry Hall who is yet to come into the side.
Richmond defeated Essendon by 38 points
Finally Richmond win! They should be looking at a top four spot but forgot how to win, losing winnable game against St Kilda, Geelong and the Bulldogs. If I was Terry Wallace, I would ask for a contract extension now.
Essendon are imo the worse team. At least the Demons, Freo and the Eagles provide a contest.
West Coast defeated Adelaide by 50 points
Wow who saw this? I did not! Wirra got to celebrate his 200th game with a win and he showed he still has the magic. The Baby Eagles showed something and their last month of football has given their fans something to look forward to.
Was this a blip for Adelaide or are they just pretenders? I edge on the side that they will again like the last few years struggle when it counts. Neil Craig is a great coach but is too stubborn to change game plans during a game, loosen the apron strings and be adventurous.
Brisbane defeated St Kilda by 46 points
Brisbane are back in the eight and should stay there. The twin towers of Brown and Bradshaw are match winners. They need to remain consistent which is the challenge.
Rebuild is the one word for St Kilda. Do not play the G-Train again and rebuild quick, you cannot afford to rebuild in a few years time with the Gold Coast and West Sydney sides getting all the picks, so now is the time to tank and get the draft picks or swap your over paid lazy ‘stars’.

Hawthorn defeated Melbourne by 19 points
Melbourne was good, yes they did not win but they did a Collingwood and pressured the Hawks and made the Hawks grind out a win.
These types of games are what Hawthorn need, they do not have finals experience so they need to be pressured during the season to gain hardness as finals are a different story.
Kangaroos defeated Bulldogs by 3 points
I always though Johnno and the Big Pav were consistent kicks but not anymore. Bulldogs would be kicking themselves as they had a chance to jump to second spot and then challenge Hawthorn next week for top spot.
Dean Laidley is one funny guy! He could not even watch Johnno take his kick, he bailed! Can you imagine being a Roos supporter and going for a hug to your nearest fellow fan and find yourself in Deans arms? What dreams are made off

I think your being a little bit harsh on Pavlich and B.Johnson
yes they both missed 3 shots each in the final quarter of their games, which would’ve probably won their side the game, (especially in Johnson’s case) but you’ve got to remember that Pavlich has been carrying this pathetic excuse for a team (freo) for quite a while. and not even superstars can keep that up for ever.
Johnson is just not having a very good season. he’s never really been prominent, but has done some good things, he’s been fighting some niggling injuries, but come finals time he will be up and about and will ensure the dogs will tastes some success.
The one good thing that has come out of the dogs loss, is that next week against the Hawks they will come out firing. they will be extremely disapointed with sunday’s effort and will be looking to execute a form of revenge against the unbeaten Hawks. That will be the game of the round in my opinion. one thing i’ve noticed, the dogs seem to struggle on sunday.
they beat the crows by 3 points on a sunday
they drew with the tigers on a sunday
they only just pulled away enough from the swans on a sunday
they beat the dockers just on a sunday
and now they conceded their first loss on a sunday
yet all their other games have been very decisive victories, and they were played on friday and saturday. interesting isn’t it?

Come now, even if the Tiges had won those close games: they’re not a top four side. If we sneak into the finals this year, it’ll be a great result. The boys are at least another season away from worrying about top 4.
And I still disagree about the interchange rules. The fact that some stupid interchange official messed up doesn’t change the validity of the rules any more than the way games get umpired change the validity of the rules of the game. If just means that the guys in charge of enforcing the rules need to be better drilled. Because despite all the whinging last week, no teams really had any trouble on this weekend.

@The Wounded Tiger – Yes Tigers are not a genuine top four side but if they had beaten those teams, they would currently be pushing a top four spot, especially apart from Hawks and Cats, no other team really has warranted a spot in their…
Interesting notes about the Bulldogs there SunCity_Royal. I remember a few years ago, were a team played night games and they struggled.
In regards to Johnno and Pav: If you want to be a ‘super star’ you are marked, critiqued and judged harder than others. Pav thinks he is a super star, he gets paid enough to warrant to be a super star. So he needs to deliver…

Looks like Mike Sheehan agrees with my comments about Pavlich aka the money man (the most selfish player in the comp).
