Well, it looks as though Fremantle’s & the AFL’s dream story has turned into a nightmare that could last until the 2012 season with Michael Barlow tragically breaking his leg.

Mchael Barlow has broken his leg and so many coaches now have the problem of trying to find a replacement. Craig looks at some cash cow options
I know that most of us in the “Kick2Kick” league have Barlow in our teams, but don’t despair. Despite my poor performances this season, I’m here to hopefully help you find a suitable replacement. With 4 rounds to go until the finals, some of these may be irrelevant to some, but with enough trades in the bank, they could be cash cows for the finals.
Michael Barlow finished round 14 with a price tag of $454,600, absolutely ludicrous considering an average of 109.9, which was around $15,000 too expensive. On the other hand, over priced is good if we got him. Let’s now look at the 10 best possible replacements (if you don’t have them) for Barlow who have played 12 games or more in 2010.
We used the MVP value, or the price/points average, based on the start of 2010 to the current round. The bigger the drop since round 1, the better value.
Brent Stanton (Ess) $359,700 averaging 100.75
Stanton’s real price is $403,000, so again there’s plenty of opportunity for a profit. Stanton is ranked 19th in DT score per game. Stanton has dropped from a MVP value of 4428 to 3570, the biggest drop of the 12 game or more players.
Chris Judd (Carl) $391,000 averaging 106
Judd’s real price is $424,000 & comes in from 4492 to 3689. Judd ranks 7th in disposals & 14th in kicks. This is Judd’s best season in his career topping the 100.9 as an Eagle in 2006 & he averages 90’s against his next 3 opponents.
Dayne Beams (Coll) $325,700 averaging 83.31
Beams has a real price of $333,200 & comes in from 4660 to 3910. There’s plenty of change from the Magpie youngster, who’s $1300 better value than Swan, & the $130,000 change could possibly get you a 2nd player if need be.
Gary Ablett (Gee) $456,900 averaging 121
Ablett is only $2,300 more expensive than Barlow so there’s plenty of room for profit making if he hits his best form again with a real price of $487,400. With an MVP down from 4456 to 3750, Ablett is ranked No 1 in disposals, handballs, handballs per game, disposals per game & DT score per game & 4th in total DT score. Many coaches already have Ablett, but his next 3 opponents are in his worst 7 averages. Buy one of the recommended cheapies & see what Ablett’s price is in a month.
Nathan Jones (Melb) $247,100 averaging 66.43
Jones could be the 2nd player you’re looking for if you bargain buy even though 2010 is down on 2009. Jones’ real price is $265,700 so there’s scope for a small sign that his season will get better & his MVP has gone from 4394 to 3720.
Steven Salopek (Port) $267,700 averaging 71.85
Salopek is another very cheap option for those looking to stock up elsewhere with his average down thanks to his injury .vs. the Swans. With a real price of $287,400, & his MVP going from 4394 to 3726, Salopek averages well against the Pies & the Crows, 2 of the Powers next 3 opponents.
Brad Ebert (WCE) $313,500 averaging 84.07
Yes, I can hear you say “not an Eagle”. Well, Ebert averages 100 & 90 against the Crows & the Bombers, 2 of the Eagles next 3 opponents. With a real price of $336,300, his MVP is down from 4394 to 3729. I would say he’s worth a small risk despite playing for the bottom team.
Brady Rawlings (Nth Melb) $331,400 averaging 88.79
Rawlings is the obvious Kangaroo buy with a real price of $355,100 & an MVP down from 4394 to 3733. Rawlings is also 4th in handballs & handballs per game, 7th in disposals & 11th in disposals per game. This is Rawlings best season so far, 15.2 above his average in 2003.
Stephen Hill (Fre) $264,400 averaging 70.79
Hill hasn’t suffered from 2nd season syndrome with a real price of $283,100 & an MVP down from 4395 to 3735. Two games away from home will be his big test against the Tigers & the Bulldogs.
Paul Hasleby (Fre) $273,700 averaging 72.69
They said Haselby was finished as a midfielder & with real price of $290,800 as well as an MVP down from 4394 to 3765, a pirce ris is on the cards with Haselby playing scoring above his average against the Dockers next 3 opponents.
Wild Card Daniel Connors (Rich) $265,600 averaging 81
Connors has played only 6 games, but he’s a gun Tiger. Down a massive 1115 in the MVP & has a real price of $355,900 as well as coming of his best game of 2010. Connor averages 80 against the Dockers & is untried against the Kangaroos, the Tigers next 2 games.
