Brisbane Lions 2011 Season Review

Posted on 12 September 2011 by

We are now onto our third team to review for season 2011 and it is Brisbane who have another year down at the bottom of the ladder. However I am beginning to see some promise in this side which is why Michael Voss won himself a contract extension. If you would like to help out by writing your own sides season review, please contact me.

It was a year of two's... Jon Brown had his face smashed twice along with Brent Staker having to have two knee reconstructions

Getting rid of Brendon Fevola post season was a good start of the year but with a two point loss and courageous captain Jon Brown getting his face smashed against Fremantle in round one it was obvious it was going to be a long season. Add to further key injuries with Staker needing two knee recons, Clarke, Rich, Charman, Drummond and Merrett also missing large chunks of the season it was a year to get games into the kids.

Tom Rockliff (who won the club champion), Pearce Hanley, Todd Banfield, Pat Karnezis and Jack Redden all improved plenty while Andrew Raines and Matt Maguire cemented their spot in the side as they look to resurrect their career. They also gave 11 kids their first game and the midfield looks impressive and good enough to build on however they could do with another key defender and forward.

Season 2011 snap shot

Finished 15th 4 wins 18 losses
Most disposals Simon Black (590)
Most goals Mitchell Clarke (27 goals)
Best and Fairest Tom Rockliff
All Australian none

Trade Bait

Mitchel Clarke has requested a trade to WA and I expect them to play hardball as they try and get a first round pick off Fremantle and maybe a second round pick and or a player instead. I am unsure what player Fremantle have that could help push the trade but maybe a Michael Johnson, Chris Mayne or even a Paul Duffield.

Apart from Clarke I do not think Brisbane will risk anymore trades after their previous attempts.
