New Redesign

During the off season it can get quite boring and looking at the various AFL websites you can tell how desperate we are for stories etc by people commenting on what a mug of a basketball player says about our game. Like who cares..

Anyway instead of focusing on that, we at Kick2Kick.net have decided to make our website better, first of all we have decided to do a redesign. Today I have finished it and have just moved it LIVE for the public. We are also looking at other areas to improve our site, if you have any ideas, please get in contact with us.

With the redesign we have:

Added a facebook fan page
Added a twitter talk page to the bottom of each page and
Also added a flickr page were all photos tagged “AFL” will show up.

Please give us your thoughts and if we have mucked up somewhere please let us know.

Update 23rd october 2009: I have just added rounded corners on the elements on the front page, should make it less box-y. Still have to fix the feature article preview image on Firefox >3 and IE and the Twitter page.

Update 3rd November 2009: We are still experiencing some troubles with JavaScript and our new design. Hopefully we will have this sorted by the latest early next week.

Again sorry the flow of the new redesign has not been smooth.

Update 16th November 2009: Have added an author bio at the end of each post, plus a poll (first one about our redesign) and at the moment playing around more how this site and Facebook integrate together.

Slowly getting rid of the little bugs, please let us know if anything needs more attention.

Maintenance time

I am been forced to do some maintenance so if you look at the sight and its slightly buggy, please excuse me. I should have it working back to normal in today.

What do you want us to Write About?

It is stock take season for Australian’s as the financial year closes, so using the same method of what every business does, we do the same for Kick2Kick. What would you our reader and supporter like us to write and focus about?

Is there a burning question you want answered or for us to focus more on something else like the skills, how to posts or something else totally different?

Also if you would like to write and have it featured on Kick2Kick, please feel free to get in contact with us. This could help if you are a budding writer or you have your own blog/ website and would like to get some exposure.

So either way, please get in contact with us with any feedback what so ever. It’s your feedback, comments and regular support that makes us successful and without you it is not possible.

Kick2Kick having a face lift

Over the next couple of days Kick2Kick will be having a face lift. So some of the pages will look a bit funny but please be patient with us as the new (slight) look will hopefully make the website even better for people.

Kick2Kick is more than just an AFL blog that highlights the tips of the week and feature opinion posts. The K2K writers were all born to the game so for us kicking a drop punt is a skill that we learnt before ridding a bike but as the AFL boundaries grows international there is a need for a resource that explains in detail using video and other means the skills and rules of the game plus other AFL odities.

So if you have a question or want to request a skill or rule explain and shown, please either leave it in the comments below or go on over to the “Ask a Question“.

The areas that Kick2Kick touch and write about are:

History – Details about the history of the game going back 150 years.
K2K Blog – All the latest for the AFL and Kick2Kick.
- Competitions – Any competitions that we have.
- Features – Feature posts written about the going ons of the AFL.
- K2k News – News of the Kick2Kick website.
- Tips – Every football week, you will get the expert tips on how will win.
- Round Wrapup – The wrapup of the rounds football.
Coach – How many dads get roped into coaching their sons team but do not have an idea about anything?
- Individual – Some drills and skills for an individual person to practice.
- Game – Drills and skills to do at football training.
Rules – As the AFL continues to play with the rules, someone is needed to help explain them.
Skills – Want to know how to kick a football or handball?

Want to write for Kick2Kick?

In the months of July and August a few Kick2Kick writers will be on holidays for various times, to help ease the load on the remaining writers, I am asking if there is anyone who would like to fill in the void for this time.

We will require at least one article a fortnight which can either be on the weekend tips or a Monday round wrapup. If you are interested please leave a comment below and I will email you back.

If you have knowledge in WordPress it would be great, however its not a requirement. You will not be paid for the posts however if you have a website you will get a free link pointing to that.

The AFL Ladder will now be located on the right sidebar and will be updated at the end of each round.

Kick2kick Downtime

Due to the popular nature of this website, we have had to change our hosting plan due to our monthly download limit being exceeded. So sorry for the trouble and not being able to be live for the first round of the AFL competition. It has been down for 3-4 days and I am really sorry. All Kick2Kick videos will now be uploaded on youtube/ google videos which will hopefully help.
