We all know about the big guns (Ablett, Corey, Cox, Pavlich, Buddy) and we know about the future stars who are early draft picks (Rich, Zieball, Hill & Yarren) but what about other players who are cheapish and middle of the road? Ones that will improve and could easily be the forgotten players but help with modest to good scores regularly.

Kick2Kick has pooled their authors together to come up with a bunch of cheap to good price players who are effective and could be your answer to your Dream Team.

Stephen Gilham is one of those underherald players but plays a very tidy game week in and week out.

Please note that the prices were correct at the time of writing the article.

CraigEyles Forgotten but Effective Dream Team Players

As highlighted in my previous post, any player who plays every week is great value if he stands out enough to raise some capital.

Stephen Gilham (Haw) $234,200

Played 52 of the last 53, hits the target 90% of the time & has a 28-17 free kick count last 2 years.

Lewis Roberts-Thomson (Syd) $233,600

Can play in the ruck & for his size can also play in defense. Has been more effective in the past than last season. Give him a chance with Kennelly gone.

David Rodan (Port) $276,300

Played every game in his 2nd season at Port & played even better than when we asked “why did the Tigers let him go??” Wins a lot of the hard ball & can kick a goal as well as give many away.

Tyson Stenglein (WCE) $272.700

Due to injuries, forced to play the tagger last season & his value suffered. But, played all games last season & if Priddis can stay fit, Kerr can keep from getting suspended & Masten/Rosa can improve, another worth the risk.
Ruck

Will Minson (WB) $268,600

Was a better player on average than Hudson, but the experts disagree. What better reason to grab him than when the experts say that?? Last season was his best & if he’s canned for that, wait until he gets real good. He also does play forward with the possibility of kicking a goal or two a game.

Chris Yarran (Carl) $130,600

Will play in round 1 after showing something in Bunbury last weekend kicking 2 goals. Matthew Lappin says he won’t play… Just like when John Hawkes used to say his horses weren’t suited on the day. Don’t get fooled by the scam.

Hayden Skipworth was given a life line & as a mature recruit should be able to impact all year round

Jermayn’s Forgotten but Effective Dream Team Players

Hayden Skipworth (Ess) $196,600

Has had a solid NAB series with disposals, tackles and goals. Will play the majority of the year as he adds maturity and another avenue in the Essendons forward line. Very cheap at $196,600.

Robbie Gray (Port) $274,200

Again has had a good pre season and showed he likes kicking goals and will tackle and provide a target to get them.

Brent Staker (WCE) $274,500

Had some indifferent form last year but had a brilliant game against St Kilda late in the year playing on the wing. Expect him to play similarly as Richardson this year.

What are your Cheap and Effective Dream Team Players?

We all have these type of players on our dream team, some are sitting on the bench or others have been in and out of our selected side for the last few weeks. So who are they? Why did you pick them?

Born in Warragul, West Gippsland, Victoria. I’m married with 2 beautiful young girls & a cat (Hirdy). One is at school & the other has autism. I support Essendon but I’m not the one-eyed feral type. Played footy for 1 year in under 15s. Was roped in, actually, as my brother was in the team & they were short of players. Terrible team, mind you. Coach had his sons in the midlfield & they were dreadful. What I do?? Not a lot, unfortunately. Cutting a long story short, illness for 24 years this year (ended footy career) & Johnny’s “workplace” laws forced its hand even more. Love to work, but unfortunately part time is the go these days. Now, spend my time doing community radio sports show on Saturdays & wife suggested I build excel programs on sports leagues & other calculations. Enjoy my “twittering” that I recently discovered.

Yes, Robbie Gray is worth the risk if you go over his last 3 games compared to his season. Great earnings potential if the Power give him a go.

Also if you think Port will improve and make the finals which some are tipping, his output will surely improve.

My team this year is very young but made up of players with something to prove…For example Sean Rusling is an up and coming player but because his shoulder is troublesome/missed a whole season makes his value low.

Would love to get some ideas on why you choose your young and up coming players for your dreamteam in maybe a post or something.

and maybe a fortnightly update on their progress to see how you go against everyone else.

Rusling is what I’d term in these tiems a “toxic asset”. One sneeze could pop that shoulder agian & you all of a sudden have a trade dilemma.

Some players are just not suited to AFL, they simply do not have the body…
See Gumbleton has broken down yet again as well.

I cant believe LRT makes 230k + a season, Im a Sydney supporter and even i think hes a fucking retard. I rekon every supporter outside Sydney are laughing at the Swans for persevering, hes just aweful, cant kick, handball and the most glaring weakness is his inability to read the play, gets left flat footed with his thumb in his ass too much too be a professional AFL player.
