Fremantle’s 2010 Dreamteam Preview

Posted on 16 February 2010 by

Well, I guess the big question has to be can Mark Harvey take the Shockers out of the bottom four? And, will Shocker supporters get off the post-Cousins Eagles bashing & worry about their own scoreboard for a change?

Greg Broughton surprised many Dreamteam coaches last year, do Freo have another 'sleeper' this year?

Well, I can answer the first question & say “no”. They’ll finish 15th & if the Dees improve out of sight, we could see Harvey’s head roll & Pavlich pack his bags.

Their draw is at 0.501 this year & the playing list average for 2009 is 932 points. The average price is pretty cheap at around $268,400 per player so is there a bargain to be had here? Probably not a lot to write home about so this should be as short a read as their winning streaks.

Best Buys

David Mundy (midfield) $345,900 – An average of 78.7 is pretty good for a Dockers midfielder considering the ladder position they were in last season.

Mundy’s best game was .vs. Port Adelaide with an equal career high of 26 disposals & a career high of 16 handballs. He also had a career high of 3 goals .vs. Sydney.

Mundy comes with an estimated $5,200 discount so give him plenty of thought.

Stephen Hill (midfield) $255,100 – The No 3 draft pick did pretty well to play a full season averaging 58.0. Amongst the rising stars, Hill ranked 4th in inside 50s, 5th for Dreamteam score, 6th for disposals, tackles & goal assists, 7th for kicks& 8th for handballs.

As for his play under pressure, 21 & 24 disposals in the Derby’s .vs. the Eagles sum up a possible player for the future.

Hill is around $14,100 cheaper this season so best to get on before he gets on fire.

Best Risky Buys

Michael Walters (forward) $225,600 – After playing just 3 games in 2009 at an average of 51.3, Walters’ best was .vs. Port Adelaide 15 disposals, 6 marks & 3 tackles.

At around $2,300 cheaper, watch his NAB Cup form as there’s some forward spots up for grabs.

Ryan Murphy (forward) $168,900 – Murphy played 7 games in 2009 & while he didn’t set the stats sheet ablaze, he contributed to 12 goals.

Dreamteam coaches may want Murphy to be more selfish, but at around $4,200 cheaper, selfishness starts at the selection table.

Born in Warragul, West Gippsland, Victoria. I’m married with 2 beautiful young girls & a cat (Hirdy). One is at school & the other has autism. I support Essendon but I’m not the one-eyed feral type. Played footy for 1 year in under 15s. Was roped in, actually, as my brother was in the team & they were short of players. Terrible team, mind you. Coach had his sons in the midlfield & they were dreadful. What I do?? Not a lot, unfortunately. Cutting a long story short, illness for 24 years this year (ended footy career) & Johnny’s “workplace” laws forced its hand even more. Love to work, but unfortunately part time is the go these days. Now, spend my time doing community radio sports show on Saturdays & wife suggested I build excel programs on sports leagues & other calculations. Enjoy my “twittering” that I recently discovered.
