Who looks at the All Australian team every year and think that you could have chosen a better non-biased team than these so called selector experts? I do, personally I hate it when people get selected just on reputation.
To me Mathew Pavlich is one of these players and there is always others that get selected in a position they never played in. So in an attempt to stop this, Kick2Kick will release their own All Australian non-biased team with your help.
If you would like to put forward a player or your full All Australian team, please add them in the comments section below.
The selection criteria:
- Have had to play in that position (ie: You wont put Chris Judd in the Back Pocket or Pavlich forward – seeing he played midfield for majority of the year).
- Have to have played majority of the year (min 17-18 games).
A few months ago, we published a sneak peak that Fox News and some other media outlets published. You may find that useful.
B: Simon Prestigiacomo (Collingwood), Matthew Scarlet (Geelong), Chris Tarrant (Fremantle)
HB: Corey Enright (Geelong), Sam Fisher (St Kilda), Brendon Goodard (St Kilda)
C: Adam Goodes (Sydney), Joel Selwood (Geelong), Scott Pendlebury (Collingwood)
HF: Cyril Rioli (Hawthorn), Nick Riewoldt (St Kilda), Steve Johnson (Geelong)
F: Jason Akermanis (Western Bulldogs), Justin Koschitzke (St Kilda), Paul Chapman (Geelong)
Foll: Aaron Sandilands (Fremantle), Chris Judd (Carlton), Gary Ablett Jnr (Geelong)

Out: Adam Selwood, In: Brad Johnson
Johnson is a country mile ahead of him.
Out: Dean Cox, In: Darren Jolly
I’m not sure that Dean Cox’s year warrants selection on the bench either, just quietly and Jolly has had a better season. Deserves the reward a lot more.
Out: Nick Riewoldt, In: Jonathan Brown
Tough call, but Brown has lifted Brisbane to where they are, and without him Brisbane are not the same team. Perhaps a spot for Nick on the bench.
Steve Johnson is under your minimum for games played, but I’m not certain I’d get rid of him. I haven’t seen enough Adelaide games to know who to put in, but I’m pretty sure they must have someone who deserves a selection. One thing’s for sure: I can’t fit any Tigers in this year.

@Geoff – Thanks for your additions to the All Australian team. I agree with Jolly in front of Cox, who has been injured and has missed the last 6-7 games of the year. Personally Brad Johnson has not done much imo to warrant an All Australian position, sure that will anger some of the Doggie’s readers though.
In regards to Adelaide players, I would suggest at least Jason Porplyzia instead of Steve Johnson but apart from maybe Knights and Bock I could not think of any others to include. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Hey Josh!
Welcome and I hope you enjoy your time on Kick2Kick.
Agree about Kosi and Swan but Tarrant has probably had his best most consistent year since he was last listed as an All Australian (2003), think he and maybe Bock would fight for the same spot.

Pavlich will get in….the AA have never really taken much notice of positioning.
Good point about Brad Johnson.
Selwood? dreaming
Cox should not get in.
Tarrant deserves to get in, but I dont think he will.

i think Jason Porplyzia should definately get the small forward pocket position in the all australian team. His closest and most fierce rival for the position would be Mark Lecras, but Porplyzia has many more disposals, tackles only 6 less goals and is much much more accurate. Also in round 21 when their 2 two teams faced off Porplyzia kicked 6 goals while Lecras only got 2.
Also i think Bernie Vince should get a spot at least on the bench for having such an outstanding year and racking up 597 disposals tied at 5th for the most disposals.
Nathan Bock is the Competitions premier and best centre half back, and although he’s missed alot of games i think the reigning all australian should retain his position.
Chris Knights should get all australian left half forward or on the bench because hes averaging over 18 disposals a match and has kicked 38 goals in 16 matches since turning into a forward after his injury (hes only played 18 matches).
Dominic Cassissi also deserves a spot on the bench, hes been the competitions 2nd best tackler, and averages more than 22 disposals a match, and was one of the few all year round cosistent and well performing player for Port Adelaide this season. For me, anyone who is this consistent and hard working for Port Adelaide deserves a medal in itself.

@AFL Guru – Thanks for adding some Adelaide & Port players to the list that we all over looked so far.
In regards to the Porps v LeCras battle, lets look at some more stats.
Tackles – P (3.6) to L (2.3).
Disposals avg – P (14.2) to L (13.9).
Goals avg – L (2.8) to P (2.4).
Behinds – L (24) to P (20).
Games less than 2 goals scored – P (7) to L (3).
I would put LeCras ahead of Porps on the fact he has been more consistent (only one game goaless and only 3 where scored less than 2) and has had an extra 10 shots at goals even with Porplyzia playing an extra game (22 to 21).
I am finalizing the team at the moment and looking at the response so far, I may stick both of them in the starting 22
. We have a list of around 40-42 to choose from.

if lecras doesnt get in the team it would be a farce. Any forward pocket who plays a lot of game time in the midfeild and still manages 60 odd goals deserves it. Much more consistant with more bags of 5 and 6 than porplyzia. And why go off one game (rnd 21) where they versed each other. doesnt really mean anything. If anything lecras deserves it more because he was in a worse team whose midfeild had worse skills and delivery into the forward line and still managed more goals than porplysia who is one of the best teams in the comp with far superior skills and delivery into the forward line, therefore he had a much better opportunity and advantage to kick more goals (the main job of the forward pocket) but didnt. Thus, lecras = All Australian if logic prevails.

@Dan – Hi!
I agree LeCras should be a certainty for the AA and if you look at the team that Kick2Kick selected, he certainly did get in.
