Humstrung by Riewoldt in your Dreamteam?

Posted on 15 April 2010 by

Well, with Saints captain, Nick Riewoldt, out of action anywhere from 12 weeks to the whole season, a lot of Dreamteam coaches have gone beyond saving him on the bench & instead opted to trade him at a loss on his original price.

So, here are some ideal replacements to possibly help make some cash for further trades.

Elite

Jonathan Brown (Brisbane) $441,600

Brown is already $3,400 cheaper after the round 3 price change & leads the forwards in terms of DT points with 373. Brown is averaging a staggering 124.3 in 2010 & already has equalled his career beat kick count with 19 .vs. Carlton in round 2.

Amongst his 2010 stats ratings, Brown is ranked 1st in goals contributed, goals per game, goals & goals contributed per game, 2nd in marks, 3rd in Dreamteam score & Dreamteam score per game & 4th in marks per game. We estimate Brown to be around $57,000 cheaper using Gary Ablett as the measuring stick.

Ryan Okeefe has been a stand out Dreamteam player & he could be one of the players you choose to replace Riewoldt.

Champions

Ryan O’Keefe (Sydney) $438,300

O’Keefe has averaged 114.7 & started with 33 touches .vs. St Kilda in round 1, but his disposal count has dropped in each game since.

Amongst his stats, O’Keefe is 6th in kicks & 8th in kicks per game. We estimate he’s $19,600 cheaper.

Shaun Higgins (Western Bulldogs) $397,300

Higgins had a shocker of a 1st round, but has since stepped it up career highs of 19 kicks .vs. Hawthorn in round 3 & 6 tackles .vs. Richmond in round 2.

Higgins is ranked 20th in kicks & we estimate him to be $25,100 cheaper. Games against Brisbane & St Kilda in the next 3 weeks could be the test.

Matthew Pavlich (Fremantle) $405,100

Pavlich has averaged 98 points per game & is ranked =31st overall. Seemed to have finally found his groove with a best on ground performance .vs. Geelong, but is that an indication of better things to come with games against Richmond & West Coast in the next 3 weeks??

Pavlich is 4th in goals & 5th in goals per game. We estimate a mild $10,000 bargain price.

Shannon Byrnes (Geelong) $380,900

We selected Byrnes from the start & he hasn’t let us down thus far. Byrnes has averaged 96.0 DT points per game & he loves playing against the Bombers having 26 touches in round 1 (30 in 2009), 13 handballs (17 in 2009) & now an equal career high 10 marks.

Byrnes is ranked 4th in goal assists, 7th in goals contributed & 8th in goal assists per game. We estimate he’s still a good bargain at $16,100 cheaper with the Cats having 3 good games coming up.

Dale Thomas (Collingwood) $348,000

Much maligned over the last 2 seasons, Thomas has so far appeared to be back averaging 92.0 DT points per game. With an equal career high of 25 touches .vs. Melbourne in round 2, Thomas was one of the rare Magpie highlights in the teams overall great escape.

We estimate Thomas is a whopping $46,100 bargain with games against Hawthorn, Essendon & Carlton in the next 3 weeks.

Brent Harvey (Nth Melbourne) $386,100

Averaging 91.3 DT points per game thanks to the best on ground .vs. West Coast, Harvey has career highs of 44 touches & 25 handballs from that game.

Only slightly cheaper at $4,800 & with games against the Swans at home, the Hawks in Tassie & the Dees in the next 3 weeks, anything is possible after arguably the biggest points turnaround in DT history.

Robert Murphy (Western Bulldogs) $357,600

Seeming to be over his injury riddled 2009, Murphy is averaging 91.0 DT points per game & is ranked 3rd in marks & 8th in marks per game.

Murphy is still estimated to be $32,000 cheaper so maybe the DT price makers haven’t seen his full potential when fully fit.

Good Contributors

Jarryd Roughead (Hawthorn) $329,900

This is my personal favourite section of players as you can not only spot a player on the rise, but sometimes a player who goes off the boil in price can be snapped up.

Roughead has averaged 85.3 & carried the Hawks forward line ranking 2nd in goals, goals contributed, goals per game & goals contributed per game & 3rd in goal assists & goal assists per game.

Roughead is in great form & still an estimated $43,700 bargain.

Josh Hill (Western Bulldogs) $327,100

Have been disappointed slightly with Hill in my team, but he’s averaged 74.7 DT points per game after finally warming to the task .vs. Hawthorn.

Hill loves playing against the Lions with career high kicks & handballs both at home & on the road.

An estimated $7,900 discount awaits. It isn’t big, but a big game this week will make you happy.

Stephen Milne (St Kilda) $326,700

Milne is obviously going to get a lot more opportunities averaging 79.0 DT points per game. But, does more chances mean more of the same for Milne?? A 2-7 free kick count isn’t a good start.

But, Milne is a slight $19,100 discount.

Ryan Houlihan (Carlton) $324,500

A Carlton player may not be the 1st choice you’d make at the moment, but individually Houlihan has averaged 83.3 DT points per game. Had a downer .vs. Essendon, but is averaging 22.0 touches per game & is a massive $47,500 bargain. Hey, at you can be assured Houlihan gives it his all every week.

Jack Riewoldt (Richmond) $324,000

Hmm, a Richmond player?? Well, he averages 76.0 DT points per game & in the game of “if”, if only I took Riewoldt & not Morton.

Riewoldt had an equal career high 14 kicks .vs. Sydney in round 3 & is an estimated $15,400 discount.

Ricky Petterd (Melbourne) $317,600

Infamous for that dropped mark in the dying seconds .vs. Collingwood, Petterd has averaged 79.7 DT points per game.

Petterd had equal career highs of 4 goals .vs. Collingwood in round 2 & 5 tackles .vs. Hawthorn in round 1.

Petterd is ranked 15th in goals, 17th in goals per game & 18th in goals contributed. We’ve estimated a $33,600 discount & they play the toothless Tigers this week.

Josh Kennedy (West Coast) $316,100

The famous trade that got Judd to the Blues, they must be regretting it now with Kennedy averaging 71.3 DT points per game.

Kennedy has an equal career high 4 goals .vs. Port Adelaide & is ranked 8th in goals, 10th in goals per game, 13th in goals contributed & 18th in goals contributed per game.

Kennedy comes with a mild $9,800 discount, but Ratten would love him now.

Mitch Hahn (Western Bulldogs) $314,600

Han has averaged 79.7 DT points per game with a career high 25 disposals .vs. Richmond in round 2. Hahn is ranked 15th in goals & 17th in goals per game & comes with a $35,300 discount. As we predicted in the perview, more attention on Hall, less on Hahn.

Justin Westhoff (Port Adelaide) $296,300

Used as a midfielder in 2010, Westhoff has averaged 80.3 DT points per game & his game .vs. West Coast in round 2 broke career high & equal career high stats in all areas.

Westhoff has a $61,800 discount & see Ebert for his tough battles ahead.

Brett Ebert (Port Adelaide) $296,200

Ebert has averaged 80.3 DT points per game with a career high 7 tackles & equal career highs of 19 disposals & 8 handballs .vs. Nth Melbourne in round 1.

Ebert has an estimated $62,500 discount, but faces the Cats, Saints & the Showdown in the next 3 weeks.

Eddie Betts (Carlton) $288,500

Betts can turn it on or can be a supporters nightmare averaging 79.3 DT points per game. But, Betts is ranked 2nd in goal assists & goal assists per game & 6th in goals contributed & goals contributed per game.

One of the few Blues forwards getting the footy, Betts is a $59,700 bargain if you think he’s worth the risk.

Barry Hall (Western Bulldogs) $285,600

“BBBB” had a slow start to the season proper, but is averaging 72.0 DT points per game thanks to the 6 goals .vs. Hawthorn.

Hall is 4th in goals, 5th in goals per game, 7th in goals contributed & 9th in goals per game. Hall comes with an estimated $43,500 discount, but will he return to his form slump, let alone his bad ways??

Forget it

  • Tarkyn Lockyer +$62,000
  • Alan Didak +$57,000
  • Steve Johnson +$49,600
  • Brendan Fevola +$39,100
  • Daniel Giansiracusa +$24,900
  • Matthew Bate $18,400
  • Jarrad Brennan +$17,600
  • Paul Chapman +$15,900
  • Adam Goodes +$15,700
  • Travis Cloke +$5,900

Meet craigeyles

Born in Warragul, West Gippsland, Victoria. I’m married with 2 beautiful young girls & a cat (Hirdy). One is at school & the other has autism. I support Essendon but I’m not the one-eyed feral type. Played footy for 1 year in under 15s. Was roped in, actually, as my brother was in the team & they were short of players. Terrible team, mind you. Coach had his sons in the midlfield & they were dreadful. What I do?? Not a lot, unfortunately. Cutting a long story short, illness for 24 years this year (ended footy career) & Johnny’s “workplace” laws forced its hand even more. Love to work, but unfortunately part time is the go these days. Now, spend my time doing community radio sports show on Saturdays & wife suggested I build excel programs on sports leagues & other calculations. Enjoy my “twittering” that I recently discovered.

Ended up swapping Riewoldt for Higgins and then using the left over money and Dangerfield to swap for Reimers…

Interesing you got labeled Goodes, Didak, Johnson & Brennan as ‘forget it’. You do not reckon there is any value in them?

You may get points value for Goodes & Brennan, but I feel they’re too expensive at this time.

  3. Bob Says:

Forget Josh Hill, he won’t be playing for a while unless Dogs get injuries.

    @Bob
Damn, my crystal ball didn’t foresee Hill being dropped 2 weeks after this was posted. 1 wrong out of 15 or so named…my credibilitie’s shot.

    Bob Reply:

    @craig eyles,
He’s on borrowed time at teh moment. got dropped for the finals and there are better younger options emerging. Hope you haven’t got Minson as well!
