In the preview of this game I mentioned how St Kilda and Adelaide were the form sides. St Kilda beat Geelong which is no mean feat and also beating Adelaide on a hot Adelaide night shows resolve and mental toughness. Ross Lyon has worked hard to create what Grant Thomas did not. A solid match winning ruck division, flair and the ability to win and ugly.
Now comes the real stuff:
ST Kilda looked good and many are tipping them to be the team that challenges Geelong for the flag this year. After their form many will not disagree but no team has won the AFL Grand Final after winning the pre season since 2000.
Adelaide were not embarrassed and they have had a successful pre season by playing some young future players who will only get better. Tippet the Adelaide forward really played well with four goals and providing contest after contest for the crumbing forwards.
What about the other teams?
- Geelong – Looking awesome and besides an early slip up against St Kilda, everything is going along fine with no major injuries.
- Hawthorn – Still a few worries after being bottled up against Collingwood.
- West Coast – Watched the game on Friday night and looked solid.
- Fremantle – Apart from winning the first NAB game, have lost every other game, has anything changed?
- Port Adelaide – Form hard to judge as half the team missed most of the NAB games.
- Sydney – Aging legs
- Brisbane – Again hard to judge with no intra club matches and injuries.
- Collingwood - Along with Sydney, they do not give a stuff about the pre season but loosing games do not help the club.
- Carlton - Judd has made a huge difference especially in the last game against Western Bulldogs.
- Western Bulldogs – Will Scott Welsh be their saviour?
- North Melbourne – I do not think last year was a flash in the pan, pre season shows.
- Melbourne – Will they win the wooden spoon?
- Richmond – Or will Richmond win the wooden spoon?
- Essendon - Was pre season form real and is this how they will play this year and will it be successful? Only time will tell.
