One game down and three more NAB games for this weekend. I am still waiting for the first free kick by a defender rushing the ball as a behind and I think the Bulldogs and Essendon game we will finally see it, what game do you think? And will the same standard as set by the umpires in the Eagles vs Collingwood game stand or will we see what we fear the most, inconsistency by those umpires we now call the ‘colourful maggots’.

Are the Western Bulldogs & Aker up for a big year in 2009? A lot will depend on their young Key Position Players.
The first game between the Bulldogs and Essendon was to be played in Darwin but due to the bush fires, they have moved it to Victoria to have a fund raiser. I am curious if this is the reason or is it similar as why the Eagles and Magpies game was moved, the economic down turn! For a full list of the NAB Cup draw go over to Die Hard Footy.
Western Bulldogs vs Essendon
Essendon’s injury list luck is not changing at all with players stepping on stingrays and legs snapping. Last year first year coach Knights surprised many with his dashing running game play, wonder if he learnt anything a year on after mixed results? Loosing Hille and Walsh will hurt the Bombers.
The Bulldogs too many are among the few clubs who could really challenge Hawthorn and Geelong, an extra year could well help their tall Key Position Players as they develop. I think players like Grant, Cordy, Roughead etc will get a lot of game time in the NAB games and a few games in the regular season. If one of these young guns or Tom Williams gets off the injury list, it could well be a year for the Dogs or NAB Premiership glory.
Western Bulldogs by 20 odd points
Brisbane Lions vs St Kilda
This game could be the most interesting this week, Michael Voss one of the best players ever will make his coaching debut after surprisingly no apprenticeship. I think Brisbane need some inspiration as they have been very average since 2005 and maybe just maybe Voss can help up in the coaching box. All the news from Queensland has been good and promising but almost every club spins the same lies.
St Kilda are desperate for premiership glory and they have already stated they want to win back to back so I think this will be a good close game.
Brisbane win by 20 odd points
Fremantle vs Richmond
No Cousins, Cotchin, Johnson or Coughland missing due to another knee injury could see the Tigers hope of some much needed premiership glory gone. I am surprised to see Fremantle rest Pavlich and other players but with both teams missing stars it could well come down to who wants to go somewhere in this (imo much over rated) competition.
Richmond win by 10 odd points

@AussieRulesBlog – im just playing devils advocate. I think the Darwin people like the SA fans are the people who will miss out with both games being moved. Yes its nice to see the AFL support the Victoria bush fires but at the cost of Darwin? Does not seem to fair on them…
I think Voss will do a good job and will bring some bite back to the toothless lions.
