Year It Was

  • Finished: 13th with 7 wins, 1 draw and 83.37%
  • Kick2Kick Season Prediction: 5th –8th

What Went Right

Not much, while they have a skinny list, many (including us) expected them to do much better. However the poor start of the year saw many young players get extended game time which will give Brad Scott something to work with:

  • Scott Thompson & Nathan Grima – Solid defenders, Grima’s efforts on Eagles Kennedy late in the season was a highlight.
  • Todd Goldstein & Gavin Urqhart – Showed promised in a number of positions.
  • Ben Warren – Looks handy up forward and could be a 30-40 goal forward
  • Liam Anthony & Jack Ziebell – Will have the midfield built around these two.

What Went Wrong

Injuries to key players in Brent Harvey, Daniel Wells, Jack Ziebell, Jesse Smith, Matt Campbell, Lachie Hansen and Robbie Tarrant all missed large chunks of the season.

This meant they lost many early games and then coach Dean Laidley saw the writing on the wall and he jumped off with dignity before being
sacked and loosing it.

Player(s) that Stepped Up

The improvement of Hamish McIntosh and Andrew Swallow who where trade bait last season. Hamish will be close to All Australian and Swallow should win the Roos F&B.

Trade Bait/ Goodbye’s

Adam Simpson & Shannon Watt have already said goodbye and except a few more hard decisions to be made.

  • Aaron Edwards – Can take a mark but if Tarrant can get fit may not get a chance, could be kept for insurance.
  • Corey Jones – Was given a chance under Crocker.
  • David Hale – Teased and while under contract expect him to be offloaded to the Gold Coast next year.
  • Alan Obst – Got a few games late but maybe a bit too late.
  • Sam Power – May find himself on the outer as he is not hard enough unlike Scott.
  • Brady Rawlings – Ended the season on the half back flank & that may extend his career.
  • Daniel Wells – Do they persevere with Wells or do they try and get an early 2nd round pick for him?

Improvement Needed by

Big improvement by their big guns in Hale, Hansen & Tarrant. Tarrant was given a contract extension without even playing a game so its time he pays the Roos back in spades. Hansen has had injury worries but needs to show something in his 3rd season.
