Collingwood defeated Essendon by 73 points
One of the biggest questions about this game is, should they get exclusive rights to the ANZAC day match? I personally think they should, seeing they created the day it is. BUT I have heard good suggestions why they should not. What do you think?
Essendon however were very disappointing and while their game is exciting, it does not win them games. Llyod is really out of form and while he is the captain. He should be dropped…

Harry Taylor takes a match winning mark to denie Fremantle a win.
Geelong defeated Fremantle by 1 point
Unfortunately this game wont be remembered for how close Fremantle got (and they did deserve the win) but rather the tactics of roughing up the stars. Geelong escaped by playing brilliantly for 5 minutes in the 2nd quarter which helped them stay in touch.
The biggest enemy for Geelong is themselves, when they get fancy and cocky, they are beatable, just look at last Friday night for example.
Adelaide defeated Carlton by 30 points
Ok maybe Carlton are not as good as everyone thought. 2 wins and we all decided to tip them to beat Adelaide. But while the Blues may have a better midfielder (Judd) and a better key forward (Fevola), team play still can defeat the stars..
Bulldogs defeated West Coast by 60 points
The Bulldogs were amazing, they showed the Eagles how to play fast free flowing football, which the Eagles previously made famous. The Dogs showed that no more do they rely on just on West and Johnson, with the likes of Cooney starring when the game needed to be won.
The thing about the Eagles which is most disappointing, is the way they just roll over, die and get flogged. Gone are the days when they used to never give up and even though beaten, they would make their opponent fight for the win. Even Worsfold seems to have given up more with his latest comments.
Port Adelaide defeated St Kilda by 21 points
Port have bounced back from a slow start to the season, with some good solid wins over West Coast and St Kilda. St Kilda who were top two fancies pre-season are now in danger after falling outside the eight at the end of round 6.
Brisbane Lions defeated Melbourne by 52 points
Brisbane find themselves in the top eight with a solid win against the winless Demons.
OK, I have heard that the Demon’s problem is that they are not used to the coaches game plan but after 6 rounds, I have one question. How hard is it for them to actually play football? Back in round 4 I gave an example of how useless they are.

Last week Brown and now Rawlings and Harvey celebrating a draw.
Kangaroos drew with Sydney
Last round Nathan Brown got all sorts of ribbing at him for celebrating a draw and now added to the embarrassment is Brent Harvey and Brad Rawlings. (pictured above celebrating) What idiots…
Kangaroos just seem to struggle against teams that are above them. They did well to get in front, but then gave the game away and were lucky to get a draw. Daniel Wells is one player lacking confidence who continually fumbled, and dropped the ball after bouncing.
Hawthorn defeated Richmond by 12 points
Richmond have surprised many with their recent form with wins and a close loss and a draw against two top 3 sides (Bulldogs and Hawks). Wallace has commented how well drilled the Hawks are and I will tip that they will beat Geelong in the Grand Final this year.
EDIT: Hows this goal from Cyril Riloi? Gets the NAB rising star and the goal of the year?

One thing i have a severe problem with, is Captains in any sport…my question is, is there leadership really that important and vital to the teams on-field success. Take Cricket & Ricky Ponting for example, his form in the recent Australia test and ODI tour was average at best, yet he was never dropped, why? because he is the captain. If Brett Lee or Mathew Hayden was struggling they wouldnt nearly be as lucky to remain in the team.
It’s no different in AFL. Why should the captains get special treatment if they’re under preforming. I think the same amount of pressure should be on captains as any other player in the team. After all this is a team game is it not?
Go Doggies 5-0-1
60 point winners over the Eagles!! YEAH-HAH

I have to agree with you about the fact that just judging on form, Mathew Lloyd should be dropped. Neitz from the Demons would be in the same situation but he is now injuried…
Last year while Ponting was out of form, he was still the best number 3 batsmen for Australia.
Last year Hawks skipper (Richard Venderberg) was picked even when his form and status probably did not warrent it. He like Chris Bond (Skipper of Freo pre 2000) usually started the match on the bench.

Yeah I understand where you’re coming from, I was more asking the question rather than taking a particular stance…because I think all players should be judged on their form, but my main question is. When out of form is the captain a hindrance to the team or not? If not, the captain should not be dropped…if so then i don’t see why they should be any different than any other player.
Ultimately it’s the clubs decision. But it should be seriously looked at.
Plus Tadhg Kennelly made a very good point. Many other sports have extra time during regular season, should the game end in a draw.
The NHL (ice hockey) has overtime and then a shootout
The NRL has the golden point, in which the first score wins the game…
The AFL even has its own system for finals, why not introduce that into the regular season? it would eliminate draws once and for all
April 28th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
That is only two sports though SunCity_Royal…
Many others do NOT have extra time including Soccer, Hockey, Rugby, cricket and the list goes on. Draws are part of the game and the only person who comments on extra time is someone who is a convert to the game, go figer…
I wonder just how many people would want draws to disappear??
In regards to the captain being dropped for poor form. I agree that they should, when you start having two sets of rules for players it breeds discord and unrest in the club. These days you cannot ‘carry’ anyone in the team, same as if a team has an injury…

How bad are West Coast going! Daniel Kerr now suspended for his “Accidental” Headbutt. Peter Sumich suggested they will start to look to 2009 already?

It is amazing how bad the Eagles are doing..
I thought Judd and Cousins would be hard to replace but the Eagles this bad? Surely there is something wrong. Are players like Rosa, Braun, Embley, Fletcher etc that useless? So far I would have to say yes…
Injuries do not help with Hurn, Cox, LeCras & Priddis but this bad?? As I said before, its not the looses that worries fans, its the seemingly giving up by the coaches and the players.

I just hate draws. it leaves an empty feeling after the match, and sometimes you think, (as a player, having been in 3 draws) was it worth playing the game? we wasted all that for nothing…its good to have a winner and a loser,
Maybe they should do it the way the nhl does it, in which if a draw occurs, extra time is played and the losing team at the end still gets 2 points, but the winning team gets 4…just a thort.
the eagles are playing badly but consider this.
-Judd and Cousins gone (two top quality midfielders)
-Rowan Jones and Chick gone (the two players that blocked the taggers)
-Kerr now gets tag-teamed by the opposition as there is no real other top quality midfielder.
-The delivery into the forward line is no where near as slick as it was when Judd n Cousins were there
-plus the majority of the eagles goals came from the midfield.
-and on top of all that, when the opposition would play the eagles they had to worry about the big 3. Judd, Cousins and Kerr. Fletcher, Priddis and even Selwood were given free reign becuz of the attention on the big 3…
so take out Judd n Cousins and all of a sudden,
-youve got less goals,
-average delivery to the forward line,
-the other mid fielders with more attention,
-and most importantly two great players and strong leaders,
so think about it…there is a massive gaping hole…and it will take time to fill that void.
they have every right to be playing badly, but i do agree that they need a bit more heart, but maybe the lack of is also linked to Judd n Cousins departure?
April 29th, 2008 at 5:14 pm
oh yeh and the eagles forward line has always been shocking,
drop Lynch and Hansen…Keep Chad Jones, Josh Kennedy and Ben McKinlay up there, give them a couple of games and you never know, another premiership might just be around the corner…
April 30th, 2008 at 9:17 am
Do not forget LeCras who is injured at the moment…
One thing that kinder gets me going as a fan, is that everyone blames the poor form etc on the fact that Cousins and Judd are no more. Move on!
