Highlights of Round One
Ahh a new season is upon us and now we fans have something to watch and read about besides what the AFL players get up to. The first week brought some surprises like Richmond winning and also showing that some things just do not change. IE: Fremantle playing recycled players and their fans talking about next year.
Also straight kicking wins games. Port missed a few opportunities and lost and Adelaide missed a difficult shot at the end of the game. Kicked them and they would have had a great start to the year. Now?
The Winners of Round 1
Richmond – Not many tipped them to win with Judd and Fev trying to prove a point. What was the best about Richmonds win was the way they did not give up (down by nearly 5 goals) and showed character. Richard Tambling probably played his best game.
Geelong – Bit hard to talk about this game as Geelong only played two quarters but what they showed they will be a force. Gary Ablett seems to be going on from last year which is anomious for everyone else.
Collingwood – Collingwood made less mistakes and had a gorilla (key forward) who can actually play. This game was messy and ugly to watch.
West Coast – Awesome first quarter but after that Brisbane had the edge but West Coast found a way to win.
St Kilda – zzzzzzzzz…… Boring. St Kilda and Sydney always seem to play low scoring boring games. St Kilda have one of the best forward lines so why not let them play.
Hawthorn – Awesome and are showing some great form but then again it was Melbourne and they are useless. Will get a better perspective when they play Fremantle away.
Bulldogs – Johnson a lil ripper. Won the game with 3 last quarter goals in 3 minutes.
Essendon – Would be interesting to see what Essendon fans are now thinking about the decision of getting rid of Kevin Sheedy?
The Losers of Round 1
Carlton – Judd will not drag this team into the finals. They lack key forwards and Judd cannot play two positions at once.
Port Adelaide – Could have won and if kicked straight would have. Bad kicking bad footy.
Fremantle – In the Western Australian on sat the headline said “Has anything changed?” and the answer at the moment looks like NO.
Brisbane – 9 goals between Bradshaw and Brown. Now for the midfielders to add a few and a small forward and then they could well be set for some success.
Sydney – Yes Hall looked sharp and covered ground but as a key forward, dropping 5 odd easy marks is un-acceptable. Marked and kicked one of those and they would have won.
Melbourne – Ok lets stop kidding ourselves, they suck and saying they have a better list is rubbish. Wooden spoon material.
Adelaide – Unlucky to loose and will only be better. Good to see them kicking more goals.
Kangaroos – Kangaroos need to win those types of goals to be a real threat for the premiership.
The AFL Ladder at the end of each round will now be updated and placed on the left. Also do not forget the Kick2Kick competition with entries due in on the 30th March.
