Not all drills and activities have to be practiced at football training or even at the local football oval during or after school and training. A lot can be done at home in the backyard like kick to kick with a mate, aiming at goals between trees or shrubs and much more.
Over the next three weeks we will release three handy activities for you to start practicing in your backyard. Please subscribe to us (via email) to make sure you get them.
Handball through a tyre/ car window

This handballing drill helps your accuracy
This skill was perfected by AFL great Graham ‘Polly’ Farmer who used to practice handballing the ball through an open car window. It can also be similarly used by aiming through other objects like hanging tyres, boxes and gaps through trees etc.
This activity will help improve your handball accuracy so when you are in a game you can be sure that your handball will reach its desired target.
Try aiming at the target (in the tyre) from one meter away and then when your comfortable with that, go two meters, then three meters etc. Then go back to one meter with your non dominate side.

I used to use a trampoline turned on its side which would test reflexes and agility. 100 handballs on both sides of the body. it could also be used for kicking practice
