do you realise what a difference it makes to being all but guaranteed a free crack at the Cats with the double chance to fall back on to then be all of a sudden at home against an injury and suspension ravaged outfit who have nothing to lose in a winner takes all contest?? They went from hunting to being the hunted and if you don’t believe that it makes a difference then you are a fool. And i don’t care how many top 4 sides got bundled in straight sets, the saints were the worst team to EVER make the top 4. Because Adelaide were a premiership team from outside of the top 4 does that make them the best team of all time?? i think not. i am tired of this discussion because it is pointless. we are a third of the way through the season…no more needs to be said.

I have very busy been catching up on 90 years of football – after the narrow loss in the “Challenge” Final in 1913 I would have thought St.Kilda would have won a flag before 1966, but there you have it.

But then I have seen that last year St.Kilda pipped Adelaide from 4th place. Many here seem to think Adelaide deserved that spot, but the next week I believe they (5th) played Collingwood (8th) at home in Adelaide, a much longer train trip than Geelong, and yet they lost, and this to a supposedly “injury and suspension ravaged Collingwood”. Someone else has pointed out another top 4 side that went out in “straight sets” also – Carlton in 1994 – goodness me there must have been some poor teams in the top four of this new-fangled “Final Eight”!

what are you laughing at exactly?? the fact that you have won one flag in your history?? i seem to remember the dogs losing only one of their first 15 last year and still not making the gf. perhaps i should do a first 7 weeks analysis next time instead of a SEASON analysis.

Some teams who finished in the top four were knocked out in “straight sets” – I have been informed that this included Port Adelaide in 2001 and Geelong in 1997 – surely this is not a good effort. I don’t think the Seagulls (or the Saints in the 21st Century if you must!)have won the flag yet, but surely they are not going to finish in the 9-12 bracket. When I passed away in 1919 9th was last!!!

I think its safe to say that St Kilda have surprised many but like Deano said Jon, its a 26 odd week season (inc finals). Look at Geelong last year, I am sure they would have happily lost 3 more games during the season and win the premiership.

hmmm, 7 games into the season and you are on top of the ladder, should we just give you the flag now?? oh no that’s right i forgot the season is 22 weeks long. I seem to remember a few years ago a certain team flew out of the blocks, belting everyone they played and looked like worldbeaters for 10 weeks, wait my memory just kicked in it was the Saints. How did that season end up for you again?? hmmm…just as i thought…disappointment. I thought most Saints supporters wouldn’t be stupid enough to get that far ahead of themselves again but hey each to their own. i standby my statements, the only wrong prediction so far was that they would not make the finals.
