In the next few weeks until the start of the 2010 season on 25th March 2010 we will review in depth every 16 clubs. We started off last week with Fremantle, then the Bulldogs, the Kangaroos and Collingwood. This week we looked at Richmond and today Sydney Swans.

After Kick2Kick reviews each club, we will give their full season 2010 predictions like we did last year. If you would like to review a team or something else, please contact us.

Jesse White improved last year but needs to improve again & take control of the forward line for the Swans if they want to make the finals after missing in 2009.

What Happened Last Year

Not much went right last year with the ‘Blood Code’ period ending with Barry Hall finally leaving the club after one snap too much and a host of senior players followed him by retirement or by trades.

This left the club no option but to renew their list via the national draft and through trades and in my opinion their playing list looks more exciting.

The New Season

While Hall and O’Loughlin‘s have moved on, the forward line now looks more balanced with Bradshaw, White and debutants Jetta, Rohan and Dennis-Lane all more than handy and will add that x-factor of excitement.

With the new inclusions of Jetta, McGlynn, Kennedy and the return of Kennelly and Malceski returning from a year to forget the old slow Swans of yesteryear may finally be a part of their history. Youngsters like O’Dwyer, Rohan and Hannebery will also push for spots and improve.

Likely Finish:  6th – 10th

Players to Watch

Lewis Jetta – In his first NAB game, he took the game on, kick goals and provided pace through the midfield. Last year he played against the West Coast Eagles in a scratch match and he kicked 3 goals against senior players.

Tadhg Kennelly – He may be the recruit of the season as he played in the GAA last year and completed his dream of winning the premiership playing for his fathers side. The year off has given his body some rest and so far it looks like it will only benefit him.

Their backline now consists of Mattner, Kennelly, Shaw and Malceski, that will provide a lot of run and I expect at least one of those to play more midfield or forward this year.

Bench Warmers

Henry Playfair - Lucky to get back on the list and this surely will be his last chance for AFL. Lets hope his body holds up and he has his chance.

Need to Improve

Jesse White – He had his break out year last year with a great end of the season with a round 22 NAB nomination. Now with Hall & O’Loughlin moved on its the time he goes from potential to make CHF his own at Sydney.

This will allow Goodes to play midfield more and release the pressure of Bradshaw at FF.

Mark Seaby - Has played 102 games and was recruited to help fill the void left by Jolly who returned to Melbourne. He has the skills and ability to be yet another ruckmen (Ball, Jolly & Everitt) who left their previous club and played a vital role for Sydney.

Ed Barlow – Third year on the list so according to Dreamteamers it will be the year he improves out of sight. He has played a number of positions in his three years so hopefully 2010 will be the year he improves.

Your Thoughts

With a rejuvenate list of ‘mature age’ rookies, will it make a difference for Paul Roos last year as senior coach? What do you think of the Swans for season 2010? Did they recruit well? Will they make it back into the top 8? Or will it be another year of rebuilding like last year?

Sydney are always a smokey team. And even though the blood code is no more, Paul Roos is still the coach and playing under him the Swans are the kind of team you can never underestimate.
I definately think they will be a top 8 side and they will definately give the likes of Geelong, St Kilda, Bulldogs and Collingwood a serious battle…
