Like Essendon they played finals for the first time in a long time and the AFL was happy to see Collingwood, Essendon & Carlton in the finals together for the first time in ages.

A lot went right for Essendon at various stages of the year including finals & wins over rivals Carlton, the undefeated St Kilda and Collingwood.

Everything went wrong this year & it all blew up in the last two weeks of the regular season with the infamous Buddy suspension & Lloyd bump & the reactions from players, coaches and officials.
