The big news of t his round was not St Kilda winning some much needed premiership glory but rather the successful return of Chris Judd to the Carlton colours. He looked good and fresh and now Carlton fans are talking premierships.

The NAB semi-finals were great games and will Adelaide and St Kilda play like they did last week? And will Collingwood and Melbourne win a pre season match? And will Judd make his debut for Carlton?

Eight teams left to challenge for the NAB premiership. Of the teams left only Geelong would not care if they loose as the other teams all want to show something especially to their supporters.

If I was to wrap up the first round of the NAB pre-season competition I would say two words “Injuries and interchange”.

This week will be interesting as some of the teams are wanting to do well while others just want to get through and play some young players. It will also give us a better look at the new faces and new controversial rules.

The pre season is an important element to any successful competition, not only does it get the fans excited about a new season but it also allows teams to try new players and moves while it allows the AFL to continue to fiddle with the rules of the game.

This week the only NAB game is Collingwood vs Adelaide which is actually played over in United Arab Emirates which is the first Australian Football game played there. The other seven matches will be played next weekend.
