Only 42 000 odd fans turned up to this game which im sure quietly the AFL was disappointed about especially after the close game and 30, 000 odd turned up at Subiaco last week in game one.

Ireland won this game by four points and ended up winning the series by five points. The Ireland team deserved the win as they out played, out structured the Aussies and even out muscled the Aussie team.

Ireland out played and out coached the Aussie team

As with the first game Ireland’s forward line of Cavanagh, Glynn & Coulter out shone Australia’s poor choice of Petrie and Brennan. Brennan while a gifted player is no star (like Wells) and were passengers along with many others like Burgoyne & Motlop.

I dont rate Malthouse and this series backed up what I always have thought. He is an old man who is to stubborn and useless to think outside the box and try something different. Richo moving onto the wing this year saved Wallace’s career yet Malthouse failed to do anything to change the game into their favour.

Does this hybrid game have a future?

While the current idiots in charge of the AFL continue I would say yes but from the lack of response from other AFL bloggers and fans reactions I would say no. The two games only got 70, 000 odd which I see as a poor attendance.

Personally I enjoyed the first game but after the second game, I was over it. I like the idea in theory but it is just not AFL.

What do you think?

International rules is great. I am passionate AFL fan but simply love this series. It is fun to watch and play, and gives players an oppurtunity to represent their country. You may not like it, but that is because your view is restricted because you are too focused on Aussie rules, looking at this game soley through Aussie eyes.

Just coz no ones wrote comment on this before me, dosen’t prove your theory that Aussies dont care for series. Really, it only proves the unpopularity of your website.

@jono – AFL websites are not the most popular among the off season (cricket, beaches and other past times take over) but I think I can safely say that most people do not like the series. Obviously not you which is good as I do not mind the concept, I would prefer State of Origin personally though.

Thanks however for sticking for the series and hopefully for your sake it continues. Also thanks for your comments and I hope to see more on Kick2Kick.
