While we cannot lay claim we know EXACTLY what every club is wanting or what they need in this weeks 2009 National Draft, we are however fairly confident we have a good idea.

If you have any insight as a fan or through any other source please add them below in the comments along with your own thoughts.

Jack Trengove and Tom Scully will be #1 and #2 however who will be #1?

Adelaide Crows

Picks: 13, 29, 45, 61

Have one of the balanced lists however some of their key defenders in Bock and Stevens are aging along with midfielders Mcleod and Goodwin.

Expect Adelaide to pick the best available player in each of their picks. Maybe a Daniel Talia at 13 who could be groomed as their next CHB.

Brisbane Lions

Picks: 27, 47, 76

Apart from Luke Power and Simon Black their midfield looks thin, you cannot expect too much from a second year player in Daniel Rich, so I can see them pick the best midfielder available at their picks.

Luke Ball is an option at pick 27 but if he goes to another club before Collingwood at #30 expect him to go to Essendon.

Carlton Blues

Picks: 12, 43, 59, 75

Personally I see their list weaker after the trading period and not stronger, rumours off Judd at Full Forward wont work (failed at West Coast injury free) and they need his pace in the midfield.

I expect most of their picks to be Key Position players, at #12 either a Daniel Talia, Aaron Black or Jake Carlisle and for the later picks a Dylan Grimes and Tom Hill.

Collingwood Magpies

Picks: 30, 62, 78

First pick at 30 which is looking to be Luke Ball as he rejects every other club who are interested. If he is not available, expect them to draft the best available player.

Essendon Bombers

Picks: 10, 24, 26, 33

Have lost a lot of mature age players but have the potential if they can stay fit. They have enough tall timber in Daniher, Gumbleton, Hurley, Hille and Ryder to name a few.

So expect them to target the best mid sized midfielders who can provide run, grunt but also can kick goals.

Will Fremantle pick Anthony Morabito at #4 or will they go for someone else?

Fremantle Dockers

Picks: 4, 20, 36, 48, 49, 52, 68

Lots of picks but most of them are in the late 40′s onwards which can be a real lottery in regards to picking up a gem.

Rumours are that Fremantle may be getting cold feet on Anthony Morabito but he looks to be too good to pass.

A backup ruckman and a few prospect key position players could be handy as Pavlich, McPharlin & Tarrent are in the twilight time of their careers.

Geelong Cats

Picks: 17, 28, 40, 42, 56, 65

Scartlett is aging along with Harley leaving this year has opened up a few opportunities down back but they have drafted a few kids in the last two years along with the recruitment of Drum.

Like many top sides looking to build depth, they will recruit the best player available.

Hawthorn Hawks

Picks: 39, 46, 57, 58, 69, 70, 73

Initially I thought they would focus on ruckman like a Jack Fitzpatrick or a Max Gawn at #39. However their ruckman need is really only for 2010 while Bailey recovers so they will focus on the best available player.

Maybe some of their later picks they could pick up a recycled ruckman in Cameron Cloke or Richmond duo Putt or Pattison.

Melbourne Demons

Picks: 1, 2, 11, 18, 34, 50, 66

No more excuses with another four of the first 18 picks so expect them get off the bottom of the ladder this year .

Pick 1 and 2 will be on Jack Trengove and Tom Scully and I expect #11 to be used on the best available Key Position Forward player likely to be Aaron Black and then it gets interesting. Will they use pick 18 for Luke Ball? Personally he is a must for the club, he adds grunt, leadership and a mature body for the young Melbourne players. Give him what he wants and the captaincy.

Anyone who posses for photos in a boxing ring must have guts and he will fit nicely under coach Scott

North Melbourne Kangaroos

Picks: 5, 21, 25, 37, 41, 53

Midfielders with pace and class is what they need and I would expect them to use most of their picks on the best midfielder available.

If Freo pass on Morabito expect him to wear the Roo’s jumper next year. If not Ben Cunnington who has been liken to Adam Simpson will not slip past pick 5.

With their next 3 picks expect them to again focus on midfielders like Jessie Crichton, Jordan Gysberts, Travis Colyer or Josh Thomas.

Port Adelaide Power

Picks: 8, 9, 16, 88

Pick 88 (if used) will be on a recycled player like a Cloke, Thorp or another recycled player.

Port need a replacement for Tredrea as the Westhoff brothers have failed so expect John Butcher to be snuffled at #8. At #9 and #16 expect the best player to be picked. Some names mentioned are Jake Melsham,  Nathan Vardy and or Luke Tapscott.

Richmond Tigers

Picks: 3, 19, 35, 44, 51, 67, 72

Have a history of bad choices but a Dustin Martin at #3 will be a smart move for their midfield. Next pick at #19 a key forward will be smart with Richo retiring to help Riewoldt. Daniel Talia or a Jake Carlisle may slip through.

Expect the Richmond recruiters to focus on different styled players than the ones they picked under Wallace’s reign.

St Kilda Saints

Picks: 32, 60, 64, 80

Are in the middle of a push for a premiership which is why they sold their picks for depth in Lovett and Peake. First pick at #32 so like Geelong they will go for youth and pick the best player available.

Sydney Swans

Picks: 6, 14, 38, 54, 55, 81

Daniel Bradshaw switching clubs will help ease the question over their forward line so expect them to again pick the best available talent and with #6 and #14 they for the first time in ages (if not for ever) they get two first round picks.

Will depend on what North and Fremantle do with Anthony Morabito and Ben Cunnington who are tipped to pick at #4 and #5. If they go as expected, Gary Rohan and or Kane Lucas with #6 and #14 would fit in nicely.

The others will be used on the best available midfielder or key defender.

West Coast Eagles

Picks: 7, 22, 23

For the first time since the early 90s, they have the right building blocks for a potent forward line with Kennedy, LeCras and Lynch but they need a small fast pacey forward who can add class and goal awareness.

Lewis Jetta will most likely go at #7 for West Coast as they look for a small forward foil

Fancy for pick 7 who will answer the small forward hole is Lewis Jetta but do not be surprised if they go for Kane Lucas instead and hope Jetta slips to #22 with Brad Sheppard at #23.

Western Bulldogs

Picks: 15, 31, 63, 79

Jake Carlisle at #15 is likely to be the best available key position forward player who can also play defence. However with Roughead, Grant, Cordy and others waiting in the wings along with Barry Hall being added, I doubt the Dogs will be focusing too much on key position players.

Instead expect them like most clubs battling out for a premiership to get the best available player. The #79 pick may be used on Carlton reject Jake Edwards (or at the rookie draft).
